There is no Kurdistan any longer
« on: October 27, 2017, 05:53:52 am »
Eurasia Daily

One of our forecasts have come true: Kurds are late with their referendum – they should have held it in summer of 2014 when Iraq’s army fled ISIS (terrorist group banned in Russia- EADaily’s note) leaving Sinjar, Mahmur, Kirkuk and other Kurd-populated areas outside the Kurdish Autonomy. Peshmerga had to take them under protection. Our second forecast has not come true (see First outcomes of Kurdish Referendum: Russia wins): Baghdad launched punitive operation. Betrayal “comes suddenly”.

"Of Arms and Man I Sing"-The Aenid written by Virgil-Virgil commenced his epic story of Aeneas and the founding of Rome with the words: Arma virumque cano--"Of arms and man I sing.Aeneas receives full treatment in Roman mythology, most extensively in Virgil's Aeneid, where he is an ancestor of Romulus and Remus. He became the first true hero of Rome

The Kurds fumbled that referendum, that's what everyone says from what I've read. They didn't go about it the right way. Still, that being said, what does one want? The US or Israel for that matter, Israel supports the Kurds, to send 100,000 troops to Iraq and Syria? And the EA article in the OP may be premature:

Quote
Why the US can't afford to lose Iraqi Kurdistan

....

US officials had previously warned the KRG against holding the referendum but failed to convince the Kurdish leadership that they could broker a compromise between the KRG and Baghdad over long-standing disputes. They warned that the referendum would carry risks that the US could not control.

Kurdistan's leadership has expressed disappointment at what it perceives as US indifference and negligence, as the White House asserted that it was not going to take sides. For the general Kurdish public, Washington's acquiescence was a betrayal.

So, this difficult situation is an excuse to put Trump down? Oh sure? We should fight their war on independence. A cheap shot.  *****rollingeyes*****

It doesn't sound like @Suppressed will be getting a Trumpy bear.

Thanks, Trump.
What?  You believe a country that never existed should be blamed for its dissolution by the current President?

Are you paranoid or just hateful?

Iraqi Kurds feel ‘abandoned’ by the U.S. as Israel offers support
Donald Trump with Benjamin Netanyahu

While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly lobbies world leaders to protect the Kurds as they lose ground in Iraq, some activists and experts feel that the U.S. has sided with Iran in this regional conflict.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq is in disarray after losing ground to the Iraqi Army and Iranian-backed Shi’a forces, following the Kurds’ independence referendum in late September. Without significant American backing, the Kurds could stand to lose even more territory beyond the oil hub of Kirkuk.

Dr. Kamal Sido, a Syrian Kurd who works at the Middle East desk for the Society for Threatened Peoples, a German human rights NGO, told JNS.org, “It is the biggest scandal that the Iraqi government is fighting with American weapons against Kurdish cities and villages in Iraq.”

It's a shame, this problem has been on the back burner for awhile but what is the US and in fact, Israel who supports the Kurds going to do? Go over there and fight?

Good article to find out about the complexities of the situation.

We told the Kurds, don't hold that referendum.

We have sided with Iraq and Iran against the Kurds.  That's just wrong, @TomSea.  You know we could have had influence there, with a strong leader like Trump.  Or are you saying he's weak?

We told the Kurds, don't hold that referendum.

Yeah.  Great of us, eh?  "You've stood by us and helped us reach our goals while Iraqis and Iranians were fighting against us, killing us, and now we're going to repay you by telling you not to hold a referendum on your liberty."

Does one want to know what Kurdistan looks like? Imagine if we liberated that part of Iraq and Kurdistan existed there? Where would it end? The Kurds are actually forecasted to demographically be more numerous in Turkey in the not-so-distant future, 2030, 2040. I'd hope they can hang on and perhaps change things in that manner. As much as I like the Kurds, they, or at least their terrorists, have used suicide bombers and that's pretty bad in my opinion.

Where would it ever end?

We have a fairly new Member from that neck of the woods, and she says we'd better watch what we wish for when it comes to Kurdistan.  To her, Kurd's are the world's unremarked terrorists.
For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16

I'm not saying they're angels.  In fact, I've remarked here how interesting it is that we're in the position of having a NATO member opposing Communists.

But America's reputation is getting worse and worse, and if people don't think it affects us when we can't be trusted, they're imagining things.
