Trump offered Gold Star father $25,000 during condolence call
by Diana Stancy Correll | Oct 18, 2017, 4:37 PM

President Trump offered to send $25,000 to a father who lost his son serving in the military in Afghanistan in June and the White House said the check is in the mail, despite Trump appearing to not initially follow through on the offer.

When Trump called the father of Army Cpl. Dillon Baldridge to express his condolences, Baldridge shared his ex-wife had been listed as their son's beneficiary and as a result, she would receive the Pentagon's $100,000 death gratuity. However, Baldridge said he could "barely rub two nickels together."

In response, Trump told Baldridge he would write him a check for $25,000 and said his staff would create an online fundraiser for the family.

Cindy Sheehan: Bush was 'pretty rude' after son's death, 'not shocked' by Trump
Steven Nelson

Cindy Sheehan says President Trump's allegedly insensitive remarks to the widow of a soldier killed in Niger aren't surprising to her, and that former President George W. Bush had a similarly difficult time with her family after her son Casey's 2004 death in Iraq.

Bush's treatment of grieving military family members, including Sheehan, who camped outside his Texas ranch to protest the Iraq War, is upheld frequently as an example for Trump to follow.

I don't want to get too bogged down in the story, it's sad. All the same, it boils down a bit to manners.
