US preparing for war against North Korea, Gordon Chang says

On Monday, the U.S. military said it would begin practicing to evacuate noncombatant Americans out of South Korea, in case of an emergency.

“Nuclear Showdown” author Gordon Chang explained why he believes the U.S. is preparing to go to war with North Korea.

“We are practicing the evacuation of American citizens. We are also doing something even more extraordinary and that is we are looking at a Taiwanese ship because we want to know if it would be served as a good hospital vessel for us. And that means that the Pentagon really is thinking about going to war and what we would have to do to protect Americans,” he told FOX Business’ Kennedy on “Kennedy.”

Earlier this year, the South Korean media reported that U.S. Navy SEALS were training with South Korean forces for a “decapitation” mission, to try and kill North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

“All militaries practice this. What is different here is we are actually talking about it in public because normally that’s not done. And really what they are trying to do of course is to scare and intimidate Kim Jong Un. It would be very difficult to get at him, unless we are doing it with a missile, but actually putting people on the ground to try and find him, that’s probably not going to happen,” Chang said.

During an interview with CNN, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said the U.S. will continue its diplomatic efforts with the hermit kingdom until “the first bomb drops.”

Chang believes there is a disconnect between Trump and Tillerson on how to deal with North Korea.

“I think this is just the president not enforcing message discipline and Tillerson having very different ideas on how this should proceed. When it comes to China I think the most important thing is that it’s the economic pressure that we are applying on them, not the insults, not the threats,” he said.

Actually, I think all this is to convince the Chinese that we're serious and if they don't rein in their dog a lot of bad things are likely to happen. From a nuclear armed Japan along with other nearby neighbors all the way to NK being violently destroyed and then unified under the south and US right on their border.

We simply cannot tolerate a madman with nukes repeatedly saying he's going to nuke us.

China can stop this. It is their choice.

The defector painted his birth country as one in dire straits. China, North Korea's largest trade partner, is "very upset" with the rogue state for not reforming its economy and instead "begging" its giant neighbor for food, Ri said. On the other hand, Ri said, North Korean leaders met with Russian President Vladimir Putin but diplomacy "was not as easy as it might have been thought."

Kim is also offended that he has never met with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Xi also once chose to visit the southern part of the peninsula before the north.

During a 2014 meeting with North Korean officials, Kim Jong Un called Xi a "son of a b----" and the Chinese "sons of b------," Ri said, adding that there is fear China will "betray" North Korea.

If there is this spat going on, then North Korea is in deep trouble if Kim is calling Xi  a"son of a B---" and the Chinese "sons of a B-----".

Yes, but if they do, they aren't going to do it for altruistic reasons.  I'm sure they'd do it for giving up support of Taiwan and recognition of the Nine Dash Line.  It's probably been their demand for years in behind the scenes talks.  They can get stuffed.

I guarantee the US has had plans for war with NK for over 50 years, updated every time the situation changes.  The military prepares for every conceivable possibility.  Having a plan does not mean they think the event is "likely."

True, but having plans is different from having preparations. 

But, even still, having preparations doesn't mean an event is "likely".
