This is such a simple song,and there is nothing spectacular about the singing,but for some reason it seems to be one of my new favorite songs. Damn thing has been out since the late 60's or early 70's,and I just heard it for the first time maybe a week ago. How the HELL is that even possible?

Loretta Lynn is not shying away from sharing her opinions about today’s country music.

During a recent interview on Martina McBride‘s podcast Vocal Point with Martina McBride, available on Luminary, the country legend pronounced the genre “dead,” adding that “we should never let country music die.”

“They’ve already let it [die],” Lynn, 87, told McBride. “I think it’s dead. I think it’s a shame. I think it’s a shame to let a type of music die. I don’t care what any kind of music it is. Rock, country, whatever. I think it’s a shame to let it die, and I’m here to start feeding it.”

Ian and Sylvia, Ian says here, Judy Collins sang the song and yes, it was Judy Collins' version "Some Day Soon" that became such a megahit, 7:40 seconds into this Ian and Sylvia reunion concert:

"Hello windaw"... I can watch the backing singers, so that is how they did it. I really enjoyed that in those songs from yesteryear,  Willie Nelson's version, he wrote the song, is quite similar in arrangement.

Jan Howard, Country Singer and Longtime Grand Ole Opry Member, Dies at 91

Jan Howard, country singer and songwriter and longtime member of the Grand Ole Opry, died on Saturday (March 28) in Gallatin, Tenn., at the age of 91.

Howard, born Lula Grace Johnson, began her career in music by singing on demos written by then-husband Harlan Howard that were recorded by Nashville acts like Kitty Wells and Charlie Walker, and had her first own country hit with "The One You Slip Around With" in 1960.

Other notable singles she released as a solo artist -- which made Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart -- included "Evil on Your Mind" (1966), "Bad Seed" (1966) and "My Son" (1968), an emotional track written for one of her sons, Jimmy, who was soon after killed in action in Vietnam. She received Grammy nominations for both "Evil on Your Mind" and"My Son."

With this birthday milestone, Howard is the oldest living member of the hallowed Grand Ole Opry. She began her career in the country music industry as a demo vocalist, where she was the first singer to record such classic country songs as Patsy Cline's "I Fall to Pieces," Ray Price's "Heartaches by the Number," and Patsy Cline's "She's Got You," among many other standards.
