U.S. Navy officials begin investigating a jet crash in the Cherokee National Forest after a Mississippi training facility reported a missing aircraft Monday.

On Sunday, officials confirmed a T-45C Goshawk crashed in Tellico Plains, Tennessee with two pilots on board.

The crash was reported just west of the North Carolina border.

Emergency management says the debris field stretches at least a half-mile long.

The two pilots, an instructor and a student, did not survive the crash.
