Please list the former President and administration members, that have been prosecuted by subsequent administrations in our history.
Perhaps answer why GW Bush didn't pursue Clinton. Or why Ford didn't pursue Nixon.
At least part of the answer, is we as a nation tend to not do that, since it moves in the direction of a Banana Republic, criminalizing politics.
My remarks DO NOT mean I think criminal acts have not been committed. They have...in the pursuit of political ends.
When we do prosecute, we tend to go for the subordinates. Liddy
In a constitutional republic where the law is king rather than the king being law, no one no matter how high his office is above that law. We may not follow that principle any longer, but we are the losers for it. To make even our Presidents accountable to the law does not make us a banana republic. Just the opposite.
When Ford pardoned Nixon it at least acknowledged the law. To just ignore wrong doing is to make the person above the law. Purposes vary. I suppose in this case it might be an "I'll overlook your lawbreaking if you overlook mine." Whatever the reason, it is not better. It places positions above the law. Power over justice. Do as I say, not as I do. It can only get worse from here.
There is a danger that prosecutions will become political. But that exists either way. This is where selecting men and women of good character makes all the difference. When they are driven by a duty to God to do what is right no matter what, we have a better chance at a just outcome. That should motivate people to do what is right even when it is their own political party that will suffer. When they are driven by winning power at all cost, be it for their own political party or their own ego, and by any means necessary, our chances are grim.
