Trump: 'Big decisions' need to be made about cost of rebuilding Puerto Rico

President Donald Trump on Friday said that “big decisions” loom about the cost of rebuilding of Puerto Rico in the wake of two severe hurricanes while relaying praise he said his administration had received from the island’s governor for its recovery and aid efforts.

“Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossello just stated: "The Administration and the President, every time we've spoken, they've delivered,’” Trump wrote on Twitter Friday morning, an apparent reference to a Fox News interview that Rossello had given a day earlier. “The fact is that Puerto Rico has been destroyed by two hurricanes. Big decisions will have to be made as to the cost of its rebuilding!”

I'm fine with emergency relief, but the Puerto Ricans need to pay for most of the rebuilding, if they want to rebuild.  A cursory glance at history will show the island is prone to devastating hurricanes.  The mainlanders cannot be expected to treat them any differently than people in Florida or Texas.

One of the first rebuilding challenges is figuring out what to do with all that big ocean water.

"The response and recovery effort probably has never been seen for something like this," Trump said. "This is an island surrounded by water, big water, ocean water."

I think a pragmatic reason exists for helping rebuild the Puerto Rican infrastructure, even at "public expense".

Consider:
What if a million or so inhabitants of the island decide to move to, say, Florida and Texas?
How do they vote, generally?

Even 200,000 more 'Ricans in Florida could easily "tip" that state into the democrat/communist column. That would surely hinder chances of Republicans winning future presidential elections.

Spend the $$$$.
Rebuild Puerto Rico.
Help the inhabitants there, to remain there!
