Twitter on the verge of giving Trump twice as much firepower per tweet

Twitter is working to double the character limits per tweet from 140 characters to 280 characters.

"We want every person around the world to easily express themselves on Twitter, so we're doing something new: we're going to try out a longer limit, 280 characters, in languages impacted by cramming (which is all except Japanese, Chinese, and Korean)," Aliza Rosen, Twitter product manager, and Ikuhiro Ihara, Twitter senior software engineer, said in a blog post.

Currently, the higher character limit is only available to a small group. Twitter noted updates about the new character limit will be announced later.
