Communist band opens for Obama

A hip rock band that features the Soviet national anthem and communist-inspired lyrics was on stage to open for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama at his record-breaking Portland, Ore., rally that attracted 75,000.

The Decemberists, a Portland-based group with a large local following, also closed the May 18 event.

The Decemberists typically begin their concerts with a Russian-language recording of the USSR's national anthem.

A YouTube video shows the Decemberists beginning an April 31, 2007, concert at Messiah College in Grantham, Pa., with the anthem.

"Decemberists" refers to an uprising at Senate Square in St. Petersburg Dec. 14, 1825, when a group of Russian army officers led about 3,000 soldiers in protest as Nicholas I assumed the throne, after Czar Alexander died without an heir.

It began when Americans surrendered to political correctness; the moment believing in and standing for American values and American greatness became an embarrassment.

Look where we are today ... people standing against the media/Hollywood narrative of what this country is and voting their principles are ridiculed as intellectual and moral lightweights desperately looking for a god substitute --- by the very group of Americans who claim superior understanding and ownership of American ideals while removing themselves from the fight to save them.

The question is not "where did the disrespect begin" --- the question is "where does it end".

Where did the disrespect for our Anthem begin?

Goes back to the 90's...in the NBA of all places.

There was a movement back then by the black players to not put their hand over their heart for the anthem or to sit while it was played.

Quote
NBA player Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf made headlines in 1996 by refusing to stand for the national anthem, telling The New York Times that the flag symbolized oppression and tyranny. The league intervened, suspending Abdul-Rauf and forcing his compliance for the remainder of the season, but it would be his last in the NBA

https://worldview.stratfor.com/article/pro-sports-and-protest-players-put-their-mouths-ahead-their-money

After Rauf (a.k.a. Chris Wayne Jackson) was suspended players would just stand with their heads down or looking around...arms behind their back.  That spread to the NFL and MLB as well.

What's going on now is just a ramping up of what was started 30 years ago.

wrong question.  should be where did disrespect of this country begin?  Not respecting the Anthem is just symptomatic of a far bigger problem.

Even Southerners, who fought a war to achieve independence and thousands dying to do so, still overall are willing to respect this country and its flag.

So the search goes deeper.

I believe it is a number of things, which can include

the failure of this country's leadership to maintain a solid bedrock of morality which honors the time-tested family, particularly that of a father integrated within the family unit.

the turning away of the morality of a God-fearing nation which recognizes that our rights are those bestowed by God, not some government.

the absence of meaningful civics classes taught in our school which remind new citizens how and why our country was founded, which is different from any other on earth since history began.  That absence has caused otherwise normal people to reduce out heroic Founders to vermin instead of heroes.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.

Agreed, @IsailedawayfromFR  The last two generations not only are unchurched, they've been completely indoctrinated by the public schools to embrace socialism and reject traditional values.

Things to think about:   Is it disrespectful to not stand for the anthem?  Is it disrespectful to not sing the anthem?  Is it disrespectful to not put your hand over your heart?  Is it disrespectful to not turn toward to flag?  Is it disrespectful to pledge your allegiance God rather than the American Flag? Would it be disrespectful to force someone to do all those things? If a person doesn't participate should they be forced to?  And if they are ... is that freedom according to our own definition?

No one should be forced to do those things, but people who won't even stand for the anthem certainly are demonstrating disrespect.

I vividly remember standing and reciting the POA everyday in grade school.  1951-1959

Also, that we all wore the same thing.  With neck/bow ties.

Of course it incenses us.

I attended a county commission meeting today. It began with a prayer (closed with "in Jesus' name, amen") and the pledge of allegiance. When a reporterette from a local TV station walked into the chambers in the middle of the pledge, one of the county employees in attendance scolded her. "You should have stood outside, young lady, during the pledge."

Powerful!

Chris Plante told of the time some super-star LA Laker was grabbed by the arm by Jack Nicholson...as he walked by him toward the bench during the Pledge.  Not a word...not a glance.

When it was over, he tapped the player on the shoulder and winked.  And said only, "It's the Pledge".

We were still doing that in the mid 70's.  Minus the ties.

Hell the POA was printed with a large waiving flag on the inside of my box that held my crayons and my pencils.

@Texas Yellow Rose

You have a point.

Teacher forces Jehovah’s Witness to recite Pledge

Quote
A Florida teacher told her fourth grade student to pledge allegiance to the flag...or else.

Hernando County school teacher Anne Daigle-McDonald has been suspended without pay after grabbing a student’s wrist, placing it over his heart, and forcing him to recite the Pledge.

The boy, a Jehovah’s Witness, reminded the teacher that his religion doesn’t allow him to worship objects. He stood up out of respect for his country, but he didn’t want to put his hand over his heart.

"You are an American, and you are supposed to salute the flag," Daigle-McDonald reportedly said, according to a statement the boy gave the Explorer K-8 school.
