NFL players responded to President Trump's criticisms of players protesting police brutality by taking a knee during the national anthem by kneeling en masse Sunday morning.

The opening of the NFL Sunday slate of games took place Sunday morning in London, and many players from both the Baltimore Ravens and the Jacksonville Jaguars took a knee during the playing of "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Reports indicate players from both teams all stood during "God Save the Queen," the British national anthem, which played immediately after "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Clearly they have a right to express their feelings; but this is also clearly a sign of anti-patriotism and is setting an extremely poor example for our youth.  To disrespect our country because you don't like who is our president, (who by the way won the election) shows liberal midget mentality at its lowest point.  Football players are overpaid and way overrated and the majority should be put into Hillary's basket of deplorables.  Sorry folks, but race seems to factor into this as well.

Dozens of NFL players for the Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars showed a unified front on Sunday and kneeled as the national anthem played during the start of their game in London, defying President Trump’s attacks on the league's athletes.

Those who were not kneeling, including the coaches on both teams and Jaguars owner Shahid Khan, locked arms during the national anthem at the game in London’s Wembley Stadium. The Jaguars tweeted a photo of the defiant message shortly after with the caption: “Unity.” The players then stood up for “God Save the Queen,” the British anthem.

The display marked a tumultuous weekend between the NFL and Trump, who called the players kneeling during "The Star-Spangled Banner" disrespectful.

“If NFL fans refuse to go to games until players stop disrespecting our Flag & Country, you will see change take place fast,” Trump tweeted Sunday morning. "Fire or suspend!”

He followed it up shortly after, tweeting: "...NFL attendance and ratings are WAY DOWN. Boring games yes, but many stay away because they love our country. League should back U.S."

His criticism began on Friday during a political rally in Alabama when he called for players to be fired who disrespect the American flag.

"Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say 'get that son of a b ---- off the field right now? He's fired,'" Trump said to the crowd.....

Exactly. I had the same thought. All over the world, especially in Britain, kneeling is an overt sign of reverence and deference. I would think that a huge number of Europeans thought this behavior was a completely normal display of respect and deference to the flag.


Of course, the average football player has the intelligence of a 10 year old, so it is to be expected that they would not know this common bit of trivia.

But seriously: the NFL cannot understand why their audience is in steep decline?

Fans of professional football in the U.S. do not tend to be Progressive social justice warriors, to say the least.  It is, as if at the start of a NASCAR race, half the drivers slowed their cars and unfurled "Black Lives Matter" banners from their windows. It would piss off the audience more than a little bit.

I get the players' point. They certainly have the right under our constitution to protest. However, your right to do something does not inoculate you from potential consequences. They obviously did this in defiance of Trump. However, the people that cannot stand Trump the most are not generally the fanbase of sports, anyway.   We'll see how this affects attendance and readings over the next few weeks.

I assume that when an organization chooses to become political they understand that they automatically alienate around half their customers.

THIS is what I don't understand about all of this crap. What difference do they think they can make? Its only a primal scream., and a self destructive one at that.
