BLOOMINGTON — "Heroin is poison."

McLean County Assistant State's Attorney Jeff Horve opened his remarks with that observation Friday in the sentencing hearing of a Bloomington man who admitted his role in the drug-induced homicide of Marie Lavallee, a 28-year-old mother of three, in August 2016.

Jeremy Miller, 29, was sentenced to 14 years for drug-induced homicide, the first such case to be prosecuted in McLean County. He must serve 75 percent of the sentence.
