In 2016, Richard Sweetman of Dunkirk, Maryland, got some unexpected news and advice from his doctor. Sweetman learned he was prediabetic – his blood sugar was somewhat elevated and he was at risk for diabetes. "My doctor wanted me to take a course and try and lose some weight," he says.
