Trump ensnared in debate over the meaning of 'amnesty'
by Gabby Morrongiello | Sep 15, 2017, 12:01 AM

A single word in the English language is about to cause President Trump a lot of problems.

The president's response Thursday to a question about his hopes for undocumented youth underscored a struggle Republicans have faced for decades: disagreements over what constitutes "amnesty" for people living in the U.S. illegally.

"We are not looking at citizenship. We are not looking at amnesty. We are looking at allowing people to stay here," Trump told members of the media during a visit to Fort Myers, Fla.

His comments came less than an hour after deputy White House press secretary Lindsay Walters refused to "litigate what the definition of amnesty is" during a gaggle with reporters aboard Air Force One.

It's pretty much "not enforcing laws".

The president's response Thursday to a question about his hopes for undocumented youth underscored a struggle Republicans have faced for decades: disagreements over what constitutes "amnesty" for people living in the U.S. illegally.  They are also getting their educations funded.

Allowing people to stay here.  Not much different.  They are essentially citizens.  They are allowed to work, and drive.  Take out mortgages, loans of all sorts, including business with ITIN.  .  Allowing people to stay for the rest of their lives is amnesty.

AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

Not too hard:

amnesty

n. a blanket abolition of an offense by the government, with the legal result that those charged or convicted have the charge or conviction wiped out. Examples: a) the amnesty given to Confederate officials and soldiers after the Civil War, or b) President Jimmy Carter's granting amnesty (under certain conditions) to those who violated the Selective Service Act in evading the draft during the Vietnam War. The basis for amnesty is generally because the war or other conditions that made the acts criminal no longer exist or have faded in importance. Amnesty is not a pardon as some believe, since a pardon implies forgiveness, and amnesty indicates a reason to overlook or forget the offenses.

By legal definition, DACA (or whatever we want to call it this week) is Amnesty.
