Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Thursday confirmed President Trump's claim that he was willing to talk about a tentative bipartisan plan to combine border security measures with a bill to let younger illegal immigrants stay and work in the U.S. if they entered the country illegally as children.
"As Congress debates the best ways to address illegal immigration through strong border security and interior enforcement, DACA should be part of those discussions. We look forward to receiving the Trump administration's legislative proposal as we continue our work on these issues," McConnell said in a statement Thursday morning.
However, McConnell did not promise to include protections for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients in any potential immigration reform legislation, and said only that he spoke with Trump about "the need for strong security measures and the need to address DACA."
