Modern Conservatism Is An Utter Failure

t is time to admit it; modern conservatism is almost a complete and utter failure.  The long march towards ever expanding and unrestrained government and the corresponding reductions in individual liberty show no sign of slowing.

In fact the best that might be said in defense of the modern conservative movement is think how bad it would be if they hadn’t been there.  This is little solace.

Yet the fact remains, other than communal ownership of assets, much of what the socialist and communist parties desired in 1900 has become reality in one form or another.

While the article is true, the fact remains that actual Conservatism works every time it is tried - and sadly - in the last 25 years - real Conservatism has been REJECTED by the very people and party we idiots have been duped to think espouse those ideals.

The Republican party and almost all of it's members is the utter failure, NOT Conservatism.

The Republican Party is not an opposition party to Socialism and Statism, it is a party that thinks it can manage it better, but will happily help the Democrats achieve it.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

Articles like this are great.  They would be excellent if they gave concrete examples.

BUMP that.
Precisely right.
The only thing - and I do mean only thing, that would turn the Republican party around is the hands of the so-called 'moderates' being pried from the levers of power, and the ascent of the Goldwater/Reagan wing... A long and sure ascent, with control of both houses, and a Conservative Republican presidency. That combination would have to exist for several election cycles to embed a Conservative culture in the party and effect change in the country at large.

But you and I both know that ain't ever going to happen.  **nononono*

I think we are encompassed by the example, ever growing, intruding government.

When have we had conservative govt? Ryan and McConnell sure ain't it. Gingrich is the closest we've come since Reagan. We've never had all three legs at the same time.

You can't bash people who've never been in charge.
The Republic is lost.

LOL  I wasn't talking about examples of that.  I was talking about examples of how to respond to them per the author's advice.

Gingrich is the closest we've come since Reagan.
He was, until he wasn't. He got into bed with big government long enough ago and hasn't
come out yet.

Sad but true. I should maybe say 'Early Gingrich'.
