My dad makes it with a bit of bourbon (in the pie filling, not the chef) and, #%$ it's good.

I'll bet!  Bit in both is ok to!

I say "gross".  Someone call it different?
Yeah, my Mom called it dog food for her little dog, I called that appropriate. The only other ones I ever saw eating them were young children, until they learned better.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I miss the clarity of my memories, they're all a blur now and run into each other, that's how old I am, my pushing 70 stick is getting shorter everyday.

"And this is the tendency of all human governments. A departure from principle in one instance becomes a precedent for a second; that second for a third; and so on, till the bulk of the society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery, and to have no sensibilities left but for sinning and suffering.

Then begins, indeed, the bellum omnium in omnia, which some philosophers observing to be so general in this world, have mistaken it for the natural, instead of the abusive state of man.

And the fore horse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression."

– Thomas Jefferson, letter to Sam Kercheval about reform of the Virginia Constitution, July 12, 1816; "The Writings of Thomas Jefferson," Definitive Edition, Albert Ellery Bergh, Editor, The Thomas Jefferson Memorial Association (1905) Vol. XV, p. 40

Thanks for posting this wisdom that today - Trump supporters have told us is foolish and 'an enemy of the good'.

Hopefully it is now that bringing Bigun's quotation of Jeffersons warning to the fore in regards to Trump's compromise with Democrats to much applause from self-identifying "Conservatives".

Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

Well it started on Topic A and I think we passed B and are on C or D, but so what?

I call it a lifesaver!  It's what I had for Christmas dinner (with saltines) one year for Christmas dinner early in my career, when the budget ran out at the new year and we needed all the footage we could get at a remote site.

Yum!  Now you made me just go open a can of corned beef!

Now I remember... We used to get cans of roast-beef hash, too.  I'll have to get some!

The Sunday Morning talk show thread was always one of my favorites to post on.

Mine, too.  And there are people who post on that thread who don't post anywhere else.  Some of them are flat out crazy but interesting.

Nope!  PeConn  accent on the conn.

I remember meeting a feller from Alabama who pronounced it "PUCK-in".

A Belle in my past got quite a surprise when her salad (ordered in Yankeeland) came with all vinegar and no oil.  After all, that's what she'd ordered on it..."Ahl vinegar"
