Obama slams Trump's 'cruel' decision to end DACA

Former President Barack Obama on Tuesday said beneficiaries of his Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program will be forced back into the shadows as the result of the Trump administration's "cruel" decision to end the immigration program.
"Some 800,000 young people stepped forward, met rigorous requirements, and went through background checks. And America grew stronger as a result," Obama said in a Facebook statement.

"But today, that shadow has been cast over some of our best and brightest young people once again," Obama said.

"To target these young people is wrong – because they have done nothing wrong. It is self-defeating – because they want to start new businesses, staff our labs, serve in our military, and otherwise contribute to the country we love. And it is cruel," Obama added.

It is cruel only if you believe the U.S. Congress can't or won't step up to save the program.   It should, of course, have been part of a comprehensive immigration reform bill - years ago.   Congressional inaction prompted President Obama to institute the DACA by means of executive order.

Trump seems to be signaling that Congress should never have abdicated its responsibility, and he is therefore sun-setting the program as a creature of executive order, and giving Congress six months to decide for itself whether the program is worthy.   

Congress should act with all deliberate speed to codify the program.  It is the right and moral thing to do.   If sensible Republicans cannot ally with Dems to craft a bi-partisan majority to save DACA,  then our problems run far deeper than Obama's whining over the "cruelty" of enacting the DACA the right way.

It's hardly cruel.  It's one of the first really grown-up things this admin has done.  It is in fact lenient since it gives a 6-month grace period for Congress to do something before it actually kicks in. 

I sincerely hope Trump-the-baby doesn't fire the adults who worked out this action.

Obama was a lazy, stoner, slacker, during his term in office. But, he has a gigantic, over-sized, undeserved ego. He is watching his few so called "accomplishments" being dismantled day by day. The ones that are not being formally dismantled are falling apart on their own, and it is driving him crazy. I expect a full mental breakdown in the next few months. He always was on shaky ground mentally. Trump's administration may be enough to give him the final push over the edge.
