Do Not Accept North Korea as a Nuclear Armed Power
September 3, 2017 | Joseph Detrani

Following North Korea’s six nuclear test, reported to be far more powerful than any previous test conducted by the Kim regime, many wonder if denuclearizing North Korea is possible. Ambassador Joseph Detrani, former Special Envoy for the Six Party Talks and Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, told the Cipher Brief’s Callie Wang that to accept North Korea as a nuclear weapons state would be a mistake – for two key reasons.

This is pure wishful thinking. For seventy years the US has a unrealistic paternalistic policy on nuclear proliferation which basically said we are not going to tolerate any other country developing nukes...but once they did our reaction has been  in the words of that noted diplomat Emily Litella... "Never mind"....

The US thinking we have a right or ability, short of war, to prevent any nation from having nukes if foolhardy. Seems to me the thinking needs to shift to the prevention of the use of nukes by the nations that acquire them....
