In response to an early morning test of a hydrogen bomb that increased tensions between the two nations, James Mattis, the US Secretary of Defense, provided a statement asserting President Donald Trump has been briefed on “many military options” that are available as well as potential economic actions involving any country willing to do business with Kim Jong-Un’s country.
As reported by the Daily Mail, the statement was released after North Korea detonated a hydrogen bomb. The explosion created a powerful earthquake that registered with international seismic agencies as a 6.3-magnitude quake.
Mattis stated that the US “made it clear that we have the ability to defend ourselves and our allies, South Korea and Japan, from any attack and that our agreements with our allies are ironclad.”
He continued, “Any threat to the United States or its territories, including Guam, or our allies will be met with a massive military response, a response both effective and overwhelming.”
