"Spontaneous dancing" is still illegal in Sweden, a year after the government promised to stop prosecuting people under the bizarre law.

In April 2016, the Riksdag, Sweden's national legislature, voted to drop the rule that forced bars and pubs to have a licence in order for people to dance in them, a law that dated back to the 1970s.

But 17 months on, police are still cracking down on bar owners for the crime of dancing customers and the punishments are harsh – ranging from the removal of other permits, to harsh fines or even prison.

Dance permits were introduced as a way for Swedish police to prevent public disorder which led to riots.

You still need a similar license in NYC, I believe.

How could a city the size of NY possibly enforce that?

It is obviously a completely racist law.

Yeah... but it's probably for the best. In your head you always think it's gonna be hot chicks in black dresses, but it's always fat chicks in leopard print lycra...

It's called the Cabaret Law.  Look it up.  Every business that sells food or drink to the public must have a cabaret license if it permits patrons to dance.  Dancing is three or more people.

Enforcement is against the store.

I don't think that really addresses my question.

Since no one has brought it up yet I guess I will be the one.

They offer a "reward" at $500 a head...

So things like the street dance--break dancing--is ok because that is one spinner at a time?

I hate to disappoint. :)

I'll have you know I have never owned a mumu, nor anything leopard print.  I'm guilty on the lycra charge, but I *never* wear it out anywhere.

Not me!--->

I don't think that really addresses my question.

Yes it does.  If a NYC inspector finds out that a store that sells food or drink is allowing dancing, they check for a license, and if there's no license they impose a fine.

It's not in a store that sells food or drink, is it?

You didn't really explain that before, but sounds good to me.  Why couldn't that same theory work on illegals in the workplace?

I have no problem going after employers who hire illegals. Go for it.  Just realize that you won't get even close to 100% through simple inspection.  You'll have to tell who's an illegal and who's not, and that is not clear just on visual inspection.  Or are you claiming to be able to tell legal from illegal by sight alone?
