As residents in Houston and surrounding areas of Texas wait for flooding to recede in the wake of devastating Hurricane Harvey, Metro Detroit residents on Monday were dealing with some smaller-scale flooding issues of their own.

More than 1 1/2 inches of rain fell in parts of the region, causing widespread flooding, including temporary closures of major highways including stretches of I-75 and I-696.

State police redirected traffic and spent much of the night using pumps to evacuate standing water from the roadway along I-696.

The scene, in some places, was reminiscent of the flooding the region experienced just over three years years ago, leading Gov. Rick Snyder to declare a state of emergency.

I frankly can't believe they went there.
