As Tropical Storm Harvey continued to pound southeastern Texas on Sunday with "catastrophic flooding," residents of a nursing home southeast of Houston had to be evacuated from waist-deep water.

Fifteen senior citizens were evacuated from the La Vita Bella nursing home in Dickinson, David Popoff, the city’s emergency management coordinator, told the Galveston County Daily News.

Popoff told the newspaper all 15 were rescued by helicopter.

This was all over social media. Very hard to look at. So glad they were rescued.

Damn fools were on Twitter trying to say it was a fake photo.

Imagine the diseases they could get from sitting in that nasty water.

My heart breaks for these elderly people. I cannot find the slightest bit of humor in this situation.

I guess I'm a prude as I find nothing in the least funny about the picture.  Can you imagine your ailing mother/grandmother in that situation?  How horrible.  Thank God they are okay.

I agree. The people pictured are obviously helpless and the owners of the nursing home were begging for rescue on social media. They were unable to save their residents due to the flooding.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I will say that from an emotional standpoint, I suspect those elderly people are coping far better than most 20 somethings would.

I apologize to all Briefers for my insensitive comments in this Thread last night.

You really have to admire the dignity and bravery of these ladies. They have likely just lost their entire life. Photos, diaries, mementos, etc. Nobody is crying and screaming and causing a ruckus. They have put their fate in the hands of God and the management of the home. They have faith.

They're just calmly killing time until they are rescued. I wonder how many of us would behave with such composure?

I do have to give credit to the Facilities management, they did make the effort to get them out.
There was a case several years ago of a home where the staff abandoned the residents.
