I was down the glen one Easter morn
To a city fair rode I
There armed lines of marching men
In squadrons passed me by
No pipe did hum, no battle drum did sound it's loud tattoo
But the Angelus Bells o'er the Liffey swells rang out in the foggy dew
Right proudly high in Dublin town
Hung they out a flag of war
'Twas better to die 'neath that Irish sky
Than at Sulva or Sud el Bar
And from the plains of Royal Meath
Strong men came hurrying through
While Brittania's huns with their long range guns
Sailed in through the foggy dew
Their bravest fell and the requiem bell
Rang mournfully and clear
For those who died that Eastertide in the
Springing of the year
While the world did gaze with deep amaze
At those fearless men but few
Who bore the fight that freedom's light
Might shine through the foggy dew
And back through the glen
I rode again
And my heart with grief was sore
For I parted then with valiant men
Whom I never shall see n'more
But to and fro in my dreams I go
And I kneel and pray for you
For slavery fled oh glorious dead
When you fell in the foggy dew

Walk me out in the morning dew my honey,
Walk me out in the morning dew today.
I can't walk you out in the morning dew my honey,
I can't walk you out in the morning dew today.

I thought I heard a baby cry this morning,
I thought I heard a baby cry this today.
You didn't hear no baby cry this morning,
You didn't hear no baby cry today.

Where have all the people gone my honey,
Where have all the people gone today.
There's no need for you to be worrying about all those people,
You never see those people anyway.

I thought I heard a young man morn this morning,
I thought I heard a young man morn today.
I thought I heard a young man morn this morning,
I can't walk you out in the morning dew today.

Walk me out in the morning dew my honey,
Walk me out in the morning dew today.
I'll walk you out in the morning dew my honey,
I guess it doesn't really matter anyway.

I sat within the valley green I sat with my true love
My sad heart had to choose between Old Ireland and my love
I looked at her and then I thought how Ireland was torn
While soft the wind blew down the glen and shook the golden corn

T'was hard the woeful words to bring to break the ties that bound
But harder still to bear the shame of English chains around
And so I said, the mountain glen I'll seek in early morn
And join the brave united men while soft winds shook the corn

While sad I kissed away her tears my fond arms round her clung
A British shot burst in our ears from out of the wild woods round
One bullet pierced my true love's side a rose pierced by a thorn
And in my arms in blood she died while soft winds shook the corn

So blood for blood without remorse I've taken in the glen
I placed my true love's clayful corpse I joined true Irish men
But around her grave I wander drear sometimes in early morn
And with breaking heart sometimes I hear the wind that shakes the corn

You'll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we walk in fields of gold

So she took her love
For to gaze awhile
Upon the fields of barley
In his arms she fell as her hair came down
Among the fields of gold

Will you stay with me, will you be my love
Among the fields of barley
We'll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we lie in fields of gold

See the west wind move like a lover so
Upon the fields of barley
Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth
Among the fields of gold
I never made promises lightly
And there have been some that I've broken
But I swear in the days still left
We'll walk in fields of gold
We'll walk in fields of gold

Many years have passed since those summer days
Among the fields of barley
See the children run as the sun goes down
Among the fields of gold
You'll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold.

Cheat the odds that made you
Brave to try to gamble at times
Well I feel like dirty laundry
Sending sickness on down the line
 Tell you why

 'Cause I'm jealous, jealous again
Thought it time I let you in
 Yeah, I'm jealous, jealous again
 Got no time, baby

 Always drunk on Sunday
Try'n to feel like I'm at home
 Smell the gasoline burning
Boys out feeling nervous and cold

We got the bubble-headed bleached blonde
Comes on at five
She can tell you 'bout the plane crash
With a gleam in her eye
It's interesting when people die
Give us dirty laundry

Can we film the operation
Is the head dead yet?
You know the boys in the newsroom
Got a running bet
Get the widow on the set
We need dirty laundry

I'm gonna tell you a story
I'm gonna tell you about my town
I'm gonna tell you a big bad story, baby
Aww, it's all about my town

Yeah, down by the river
Down by the banks of the river Charles (aw, that's what's happenin' baby)
That's where you'll find me
Along with lovers, muggers, and thieves (aw, but they're cool, too)
Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, you're the Number One place)
Frustrated women (I mean they're frustrated)
Have to be in by twelve o'clock (oh, that's a shame)
But I'm wishin' and a-hopin, oh
That just once those doors weren't locked (I like to save time for
My baby to walk around)
Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, yeah)

Because I love that dirty water
Oh, oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, yeah)

It was Friday late and she crossed those legs
She told me flat out she would. Yeah
If I could pull up my trailer pegs
We could get away together for good
I sure wish her the best of luck
She's going to need it thinking of Jim
I don't like to leave her stuck
But she's near as bad as him

But I've been around in Donkey Town
Too long baby too long
Checking out of Donkey Town
So long, so long, so long
Checking out of Donkey Town
So long, so long, so long

Jiggity-jig, (hee-haw, hee-haw)
It's Dominick the Donkey!
Jiggity-jig, (hee-haw, hee-haw)
The Italian Christmas donkey!

La-la-la, la-la la-la-dee-uh-dah,
La-la-la, la-la la-la-dee-uh-dah

Jingle bells around his feet and presents on the sled
Hey! Look at the mayor's derby on top of Dominick's head
A pair of shoes for Louie and a dress for Josephine―
The labels on the inside says they're "made in Brooklyn!"

Fine little girl waits for me
Catch a ship across the sea
Sail that ship about, all alone
Never know if I make it home

Louie Louie, oh oh no
Me gotta go, oh no
Louie Louie, oh baby
I said we gotta go

Three nights and days I sail the sea
Think of girl, constantly
On that ship, I dream she's there
I smell the rose in her hair.

Louie Louie, oh no
Me gotta go
Aye-yi-yi-yi, I said
Louie Louie, oh baby
Me gotta go

Okay, let's give it to 'em, right now!

I rode my bicycle past your window last night
I roller skated to your door at day light
It almost seems like you're avoiding me
I'm okay alone, but you got something I need

Well, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
She asked me name my foe then. I said the need within some men to fight and kill their brothers without thought of Love or God. Ken Hensley

I had a little beetle
So that beetle was his name
And I called him Alexander
And he answered just the same
And I put him in a matchbox
And I kept him all the day
But nanny let my beetle out
Yes nanny let my beetle out
She went and let my beetle out
And beetle ran away

Clothes aren't what they used to be
They don't seem to fit you and me, anymore
Modesty is out the door
Flaunting what we've got and more is in
Yeah, it's in

They're sayin'
"Don't ask why, just wear what we say
You'll look like a model if you'll only obey
To get the attention, just do what we say"

Pay so much for clothes so small
Was this shirt made for me or my doll?
Is this all I get?
I looked so hot but caught a cold
I was doing just what I was told
To fit in

I'm not cheap, you understand
I'm just a cut price person in a low budget land
Excuse my shoes they don't quite fit
They're a special offer and they hurt me a bit
Even my trousers are giving me pain
They were reduced in a sale so I shouldn't complain
They squeeze me so tight so I can't take no more
They're size 28 but I take 34

Step in my face
Slander my name
All over the place

Do anything that you want to do
But uh-uh, honey
Lay off of my shoes
Don't you step on my blue suede shoes

Out in the country, past the city limit sign
There's a honky-tonk near the county line
The joint starts jumping every night when the sun goes down
They've got whiskey, women, music and smoke
It's where all the cowboy folk go to boot scootin' boogie

Yeah, heel toe, do-si-do, come on baby, let's go boot-scootin'
Cadillac, blackjack, baby meet me out back, we're gonna boogie
Hey, get down, turn around, go to town, boot-scootin' boogie

Won't you scratch my itch sweet Annie Rich
And welcome me back to town
Come out on your porch or I'll step into your parlour
And I'll show you how it all went down
Out with the truckers and the kickers and the cowboy angels
And a good saloon in every single town

...
Oh but I remember something you once told me
And I'll be damned if it did not come true
Twenty thousand roads I went down, down, down
And they all lead me straight back home to you
Twenty thousand roads I went down, down, down
And they all lead me straight back home to you

Sweet Annie can I stay with you a while
'Cause this road's been putting miles on my heart,
Sweetheart I've been livin' in a fantasy
But one day Lightning will strike
And my bark will lose its bite
But don't give up on me
Sweet Annie.

This night's gone, we're moving on
Highway's calling aloud
I bring them in with eyes of sin
It's a down drinkin' freaky crowd
Chew you up and spit you out
Never want to know your name
Don't want to know you but I sure want to show you
Never will forget I came
On the world's all mine
White lightning and wine came on so fast
When did I last feel this fine?
White lightning and wine

You know the way
It throws about
It takes you in
And spits you out
It spits you out
When you desire
To conquer it
To feel you're higher
To follow it
You must be clean
With mistakes
That you do mean
Move the heart
Switch the pace
Look for what seems out of place

I've realized a dream
And I visualized
The love that came to be
Feel so alive
I'm so thankful that I've received
The answer that heaven has sent down to me

You treated me kind
Sweet destiny
And I'll be eternally grateful
Holding you so close to me
Prayed through the nights
So faithfully
Knowing the one that I needed
Would find me eventually

I had a vision of love
And it was all that you've given to me
I had a vision of love
And it was all that you've turned out to be
