Slavery

The first recorded sale of Irish slaves in 1612 was to a settlement in South America.

The little white girl on the cover of an ACLU Tweet last Thursday looked Irish… blonde and beautiful, carrying a toy in one hand and an American flag in the other.   That Tweet was quickly replaced by another of Kermit the Frog and an apology and note of thanks to those who had complained about the ACLU using the picture of a white child. “The ACLU explained that the complainers were right…. white supremacy is everywhere they said and we all need to be reminded of that.

It is.  Slavery should never be dismissed or defended, but if we're talking numbers, the Irish suffered as no other group.

"Before black people ever heard of slavery, the Vikings captured the Irish to serve as their slaves — from the 8th to the 12th century."

Yeah, there was no slavery in Africa before then.  Sure.  Fail.
My avatar shows the national debt in stacks of $100 bills.  If you look very closely under the crane you can see the Statue of Liberty.

Fair enough. Slavery is as old, almost, as humanity is.  Still, one error doesn't wreck the essential elements of the article.

The author was trying to make the point that past injustices done to people of your own particular ethnicity are no justification  for your present behavior and attitude.
In the history of the world, whether were labeled slaves or not, many millions of people of many different ethnicities have been de facto enslaved, imprisoned, or killed by others.
I can't go to Italy and start demanding reparations from Italians because some of my distant ancestors, Slavs,  might have been taken as slaves by the Romans several thousand years earlier.
