Curmudgeon that I am, I question the wisdom and sanity of putting oneself deliberately in the path of such a storm. Are they collecting scientific data for, say, the NWS, or are they risking their lives for the hell of it?
Same with TV stations which put some poor sap out in the middle of a storm to tell us that, yes, it's storming outside. I should think that, as the roof of your house is blowing off, you know that, yes ideed, there is a storm going on outside. You don't need anyone to tell you that.
