Wait until Indian Point closes. It supplies roughly a third of the electricity that New York City consumes...
The present NY state leadership does not have any orders in place for replacement electricity generation. There aren't even plans to investigate the issue at this time.
It is really rather childish of them...they envision replacing a third of their generating capacity partially with natural gas, partially with environmentalism (cutbacks, solar, wind, efficiency), partially with Canadian hydro power.
Because environmentalist goals are rarely met, because there are no natural gas projects in the works and because Canadian hydro power is very expensive, the most likely scenario is that the Indian Point closing date will be extended.
Then, the Indian Point plants will have to rely on short term contracts and operability re-evaluations. This will result in additional costs that will be passed on to the ratepayers.
All because NY state leadership is incompetent and spineless.
