The Rev. Jesse Jackson on Sunday gave a strong endorsement to the movement for removing monuments to leaders of the Confederacy and called for the electoral college to be abolished.

Speaking at the Islamic Center of Southern California, Jackson blamed the electoral college system, giving disproportionate influence to less populated states, for the 2000 and 2016 loss of Democratic presidential candidates Al Gore and Hillary Clinton despite their winning the popular vote.

“Today we are looking at a structural problem,” Jackson said. “These monuments must go.

Calling for the audience to repeat, he said, “Say the monuments and the flags and the electoral college must go.”

I had forgotten he had Tweeted such a thing.  I appreciated the reminder.  I also find it humorous, so that's a plus for me also.  I would have read the post and thought "oh yeah, he did say that a while back, didn't he.", but then your reaction to it got me curious.

BUT— IF we go to NPV, you must assure us that no candidate can win outright without a majority of votes cast, the same way that is required in the Electoral College.

If NPV replaces the electoral college, that means in 2016, the vote would have gone to Congress because no one polled a majority, and Hillary would have almost certainly still lost.

We're discussing the Electoral College and the stated opinion that it needs to be abolished.

Trump tweeted in 2012 the same damn thing Jackson said Sunday.
