Many of those arrested identified themselves as part of the Antifa movement. Its name derives from "anti-fascist," and it has come to represent what experts who track these organizations call the "hard left" -- an ideology that runs afield of the Democratic Party platform and supports oppressed populations as it protests the amassing of wealth by corporations and elites.

Antifa activists, who operate without any centralized leadership, told CNN that their goal is peace and inclusivity. They often denounce capitalism and government. Since Trump entered the world stage, they've condemned his push to tighten immigration rules and what some view as his tendency toward racism.

While Antifa members don't fit a single category, they say many are millennials and many live on society's fringes: undocumented immigrants, transgender people, low-wage workers, those who don't conform to the traditional 9-to-5.

And their methods are often violent. Antifa leaders admit they're willing to physically attack anyone who employs violence against them or who condones racism -- as long as force is used in the name of eradicating hatred.

A very good question, but at least it makes them easy to spot.  Interesting how they are proudly displaying their affiliation and city of origin, but not their faces.

Some states initiated such laws as being aimed at the Klan. One can look that up.

Those California protests months ago, had masks on both sides, ditto for last weekend. The Law needs to think about enforcing these laws.

The problem with Antifa is that anyone who disagrees with them politically is a racist and fascist, so therefore fair game to violence. It's all just flimsy excuses to be violent to affect political change. Berkeley being a good example of that.

I'd say our little experiment with liberty is over.

Few want it.

What they want is freedom to do what they please at someone else's expense - and to inflict pain and punishment upon those whom their leaders have told them to hate.

This can be dealt with at the state level, at least in Republican-controlled states.

The legislatures in these states should pass laws that prohibit the wearing of masks in public demonstrations, under penalty of arrest. And then DO it.

This will result in some test cases in court.
Let them go forward. As high in the courts as possible.
