Conservative group to Senate GOP: Replace McConnell

By Jordain Carney - 08/11/17 03:20 PM EDT

A conservative group wants senators to remove the GOP majority leader from his leadership post amid his a war of words with President Trump.

The Senate Conservatives Fund, a longtime foe of Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), is urging supporters this week to pressure Senate Republicans "to replace him now."

"Mitch McConnell is making excuses and blaming others while the Senate is on a month-long recess. The problem isn’t that the president hasn’t been in his job very long; it’s that McConnell has been in his job for too long!" the conservative group said in a blast to supporters.

McConnell said at a Rotary Club event in Kentucky earlier this week that Trump's "excessive expectations" were partly to blame for the narrative that Republicans hadn't accomplished anything.

The time to replace McConnell was in 2014.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

Conservative group

"The problem isn’t that the president hasn’t been in his job very long; it’s that McConnell has been in his job for too long!"

Totally says it all and, by the way, he's ugly.

Cruz was right about McConnell.

And Trump was wrong.

Non sequitur.      The president is busy doing nothing and McConnel is just plain confounding.  It was not his fault that McCain shot down the O care plan.

Great.  Replace him...with who?
Anyone who wants the job has to be a Senator and is therefore most likely unfit for it.

Cornyn's the next in line, but does he want it?

If the majority leader can't round up votes and pass legislation, as Reid, Daschle, Mitchell etc etc routinely had no problem doing, then he's ineffective and should be replaced.

IIRC...He could be challenged for the majority position when the next congress is seated.  I'm sure there are parliamentary moves that could be made to do it sooner.

Cornyn is a bigger waste of time than Mitch.

Turtle has all his hand picked hand maidens in the positions that would likely challenge him.

However Senate Majority Leader Mike Lee has a nice ring to it.

I'd have to question the sanity of anyone who wants the job in the first place.

As @Once-Ler  said: "Replace him - with who?"

Remember last time a group of conservatives got together to dump a leader?

They succeeded, then had no plan for who to put up as replacement. They flailed about, stomping all over their own dicks with hobnail boots, and we wound up with Ryan.

Hows about NOT doing that again.

Considering so many comments have been made about how a few Republican Senators are really Democrats (those names change a bit, depending on who is irate at the moment)...

...I'd laugh my @$$ off if, once the vote of no-confidence is approved...

...the Democrats, plus those GOP Senators, put Chuck Schumer as the replacement. (Schumer is the Democrat Minority leader in the Senate)
