Violence erupts in Kenya after losing candidate charges presidential election 'hacked'
USA Today, Aug 9, 2017

NAIROBI, Kenya — At least three people were killed as violent protests broke out Wednesday after the losing presidential candidate charged that Tuesday's election results were hacked to hand a victory to incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta.

Supporters of  Raila Odinga in this capital city — mainly its huge slums — burned tires, smashed shacks, blocked roads and threw stones at police, yelling, "no Raila, no peace.

Two protesters were shot and killed by police in the Mathare slum in Nairobi, local police confirmed. In the Kisii region in western Kenya, a police officer fatally shot a man outside a polling center. Police commander Abdi Hassan said the officer, who was manning the election office, is in custody.

Couldn't Obama legally run for President there?

  • All deserve a trial if accused
The violence was predictable; it seems to boil down to tribal differences.

Still, Kenya and neighboring Tanzania seem to be much better off than most of their neighbors. This is a pain, Kenya has to go through periodically, like every presidential election.

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
Got a pastor friend from Kenya over here right now visiting. Asked him how things were there, he said good 'but it's election time' and he was rightfully worried about violence. Fortunately his town is far from it.
The Republic is lost.

When Senator Obama was backing Odinga in 2008, the election was supposedly crooked but not clearly "hacked," whereas the electorate definitely did get hacked (i.e., in a mass murder of thousands of Odinga's opponents by machetes wielded by Obama's Luo tribe kinsmen).   Sounds like the stuff that Community Organizers do, doesn't it?
