It's not the President's job to have any kind of involvement in something like this.  It's wrong period. 

   Presidents have been doing this since Roosevelt's fireside chats. 

It's refreshing to see a Republican president using every communications tool available.

This isn't a communications tool...it's blatant propaganda.

Those fire side chats were broadcast on normal recognized media outlets both radio and eventually TV.  Trump has an entire communications agency within the WH to reach the people directly and get his message out.  He can do oval office chats with America...he can call a Press conference to tell us things he thinks we need to know.

He can deliver his message via the Saturday address every week.

There is already a myriad of ways he can communicate with the people that doesn't smack of blatant propaganda.


This is something a dictator does.  This is Putin like manipulation of the media.

Its funny that the same people that decry the manipulation of the news via outlets like CNN MSNBC...the two that have been mentioned have no problem with manipulation of the news when Trump does it.

The President has an entire communications staff within the WH to do this (WACA).  He's got the Weekly Presidential Address on Saturdays...he could give Oval Office briefings to the American people the same way that every President until Obama did to reach out and talk to the American people.

He can call a press conference at the WH on any day of the week to discuss issues he thinks are important and that the American people need to know about.

There is no reason why the man who is supposedly the most powerful man on the planet feels he has no outlet for his message but blatant propaganda emanating from Trump Towers posted to FB.

A couple of points.  Why are we discussing Obama in this context?  Obama had the press on his side.  Without that singular advantage, he would never have won a second term.

Trump is faced with the opposite situation.  The press is not only against him, they are relentlessly, fanatically against him.  He has to figure out a way to counteract that.

Also, we are in a different era now.  Facebook has become a powerful political tool.  My Facebook page still has a few 'words of wisdom,' doggie spotting and recipes, but it now has more political stuff than anything else.

It's not your parents' Fireside Chats anymore and Trump has moved with the times.

Well, if not a justification, it might be a reason.  Whether you despise Trump, adore him, or simply want to be fair to him, Trump cannot get a fair shake from the regular news outlets.

So, he's trying something new.  You can call it stupid and you can call it manipulation and you can call it propaganda, but whatever you choose to call it, it is Trump's innovative idea for getting his own viewpoint out.

From what I read about the first edition, I don't think you need to worry so much, TRG, it was positively maudlin.  At least he used the 'good' daughter-in-law.

Why are you so upset about this?  It doesn't give Trump any kind of unfair advantage.  It's another way of bypassing the media.  I don't blame him for trying to do this.  The media is out to get him ... it cannot be denied.  They will use all their skill to either slant stories or outright lie to make him look bad.
