Millennials Discover Amazing New Technology: Television

I haven’t had cable TV for years, and I don’t miss it. Sorry, cable news, but if something interesting happens on your air, it’ll be on the Internet within minutes. Between Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and all the other streaming services out there, I’ve always got something to watch. And for live TV, I’ve got a TiVo attached to a digital antenna. Because I’m old enough to know what broadcast television is, and that it still exists.

Not everybody does, apparently!

Quote
Dan Sisco has discovered a technology that allows him to access half a dozen major TV channels, completely free.
“I was just kind of surprised that this is technology that exists,” says Mr. Sisco, 28 years old. “It’s been awesome. It doesn’t log out and it doesn’t skip.”
Let’s hear a round of applause for TV antennas, often called “rabbit ears,” a technology invented roughly seven decades ago…
Carlos Villalobos, 21, who was selling tube-shaped digital antennas at a swap meet in San Diego recently, says customers often ask if his $20 to $25 products are legal. “They don’t trust me when I say that these are actually free local channels,” he says.

Remember when we all thought technology would make everybody smarter?

You see, broadcast TV is “free” because they sell these things called “commercials.” You know, those short films you flip past on your DVR. You’re not breaking the law by buying a digital antenna and watching any of the channels available in your area.

(In America, anyway. In the UK, you need to buy a license and renew it annually. To watch TV!)

But do they have to get up to change the channel?

Netflix, Hulu, and the like have been around for 10 years or less. Which means 23 y/o millennial was in freaking high school before they likely started using it.

Just when I think some of those in that generation can't get any dumber.

The Republic is lost.

Never underestimate the stupidity of a millennial.

I remember at age 7 moving from 2 fuzzy B & w channels in northeast Colorado, to seven clear b & w channels, and thinking I had died and gone to heaven.

It has been up the technology hill, ever since.

When I cut the cable I went to walmart and bought a digie antenna.  I thought I had died and went to 1965 and my Dad  was having me hold the rabbit ears and turn 360 degree slowly to find the less snowy signal!

Except if you live in a hilly area, those antennas don't work anymore.

High speed interne, Roku, and some time invested will get you far more content than you need.

Much of important live news is on Yahoo, XTV, etc.

Plenty of options, besides Antenna or cable.

I was talking to my mom and mentioned "over the air TV" and she said "What's that". LOL!

It's not  just millennials because she's 70. I distinctly recall the crap that was broadcast TV before we got cable in the mid 80's.

Anyone remember UHF TV channels and how terrible they were?
