HBO's Confederacy of Dunces
By Kimberly Bloom Jackson

The latest example of liberal Hollywood spin will turn American history on its head by radically reimagining the Southern states as victors of the Civil War (1861-1865), with slavery continuing to flourish into the present-day.  David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, creators of HBO’s award-winning adventure series Game of Thrones (2011-), have just been given the green light to produce a controversial new series titled Confederate.

This has turned into a liberals eating liberals event which I am enjoying enormously.
The thoroughly confused liberal opponents of the series seriously believe the creators of the show are engaging in "slave porn" and actually seek to endorse the idea of slavery in the 21st century.
Meanwhile, the creators mistakenly believe they're going to initiate some nation-wide discussion about the tragic situation of black Americans in today's world.
Both lib groups are off their rockers.
Slavery would probably have died out before the 20th century.  And if the South had won and tried to maintain the institution into the 20th century, they would have faced tremendous opposition and ostracism from the other countries of the world.
There's no chance slavery would have survived up until now.
My guess is that the series will be a disaster for a number of reasons. I get HBO, but I'm not wasting my time watching this stupid series....if it ever gets off the ground that is.  And thanks to other nutty libs, it just might not.
At any rate...... :2popcorn:

Slavery was an anachronism by the time of the civil war - it probably would've been abolished within ten years without the war.

Dumb argument about obvious fiction.

Plenty of folks seemed to love "The man in the high castle" without becoming nazis and Harry Turtledove is a popular fiction writer with a tendency toward alternative history.

The real issue is whether people can tell the difference between fiction and reality. I once had a liberal suggest that I shut up and listen to some "alternative history" so I wouldn't believe democrats were the party of slavery.

I had an ex girl friend who thought I was sympathetic to Nazis because I had numerous books about them. I had to explain to her that (1) I had numerous books on a variety of subjects and (2) you can only learn about something by reading, hearing, watching programs/articles about them.
I left out (3) she was an idiot.  Anyway, we eventually (and inevitably) split up. She was more crazy than an idiot, but both would be good descriptions of her.

Those are the same people who are convinced Abe Lincoln was a Democrat. Or he'd be one today.

When the Hutaree militia members were arrested (later acquitted) it was reported that a copy of Mein Kampf was found among personal belongings. However their argument against ownership of the book was driven off the rails itself by the discovery that the University of Michigan owns several dozen copies in various libraries. The irony of those liberals immediately demanding that UofM destroy the books or restrict access to them was lost.

Mein Kampf is not dangerous. Its a poorly written progressive screed. The danger of Mein Kampf is to the progressives and the fact that it exposes fascism and progressivism as the twin brothers they are.

It's  a shame more Germans at the time didn't read Mein Kampf or Hitler's other turgid book I read (or tried to read) in a public library about his New World Order..or something with that title.
Hitler's prose is stupefyingly boring. Maybe many Germans who backed Hitler and just listened to his speeches might have realized what a dull, third rate mind he had.
