With regards to your first point, it is already the law (see the 1996 Welfare Reform Law here)

Already an unenforced law.

Already an unenforced law.
Who is in charge of enforcing welfare again?  Which branch enforces the law?  The GOP owns...lemmie think...all of them.  Perhaps this is a states rights issue.  The GOP owns the Governors and state legislatures and has for several years.

and now, while everyone is watching the Washington clown show...maybe now is the time to do something about welfare fraud.

It seems to me that Illegals would not come to America for a free ride if it wasn't available.  It also seems to me that government does a piss poor job of everything.  So I'm disinclined to drop more work on everyone's troubled police departments...I mean every police department that can't fund through asset forfeiture  , but I could be in favor of eliminating the Department of HHS and exempting the Government from lawsuits for the now defunct Department.  I think that also stops America from being a magnet to illegal dead weight.

Whew. It's getting hot in here.

Steve Miller?

Billy Mac is a detective down in Texas
He only knows exactly what the facts is
He ain't  gonna let those two escape justice
He makes his living off other people's taxes

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

Feed the babies
Who don't have enough to eat
Shoe the children
With no shoes on their feet
House the people
Livin' in the street
Oh, oh, there's a solution

No disrespect Wingnut, but I doubt it...

and here is why...

It is a common name.  I once knew a Ben Grimm, but he wasn't the ever lovin' blue eyed Thing.

'This Is Ridiculous': Mark Steyn Goes Off on 'Buffoon' Jim Acosta
Fox News, Aug 2, 2017

President Donald Trump’s senior policy adviser Stephen Miller had a heated exchange with CNN reporter Jim Acosta during today's press briefing.

***

On "Tucker Carlson Tonight," Mark Steyn slammed Acosta for "hijacking" the press conference and for "showboating."

"If you want to do The Jim Acosta Show, there's a rusting boxcar around the back of the freight yard with three semi-comatose hobos who are interested in it. But nobody else is," Steyn said.

Steyn pointed out that there are 60 countries that have English as an official language, so Acosta's suggestion that the Trump administration is "trying to engineer the racial and ethnic flow of people into this country" is ridiculous.

Tucker said it appears that Acosta believes English isn't just a language, but a race.

"The idea that this is just some pasty white man's language is so deranged," Steyn said. "Almost a third of the members of the United Nations are proficient in English, more or less."

He said that up until about 50 years ago, it was normal for a countries to create immigration systems based on merit and who could most easily assimilate.

"Suddenly, it's become a point where there's 7 billion people on the planet and you're not allowed to make value judgments about any of them," Steyn said. "This is ridiculous."

Watch more above.

I told you 'bout living in the U.S. of A.
Don't you know that I'm a gangster of love
Let me tell you people that I found a new way
And I'm tired of all this talk about love
And the same old story with a new set of words
About the good and the bad and the poor
And the times keep on changin'
So I'm keepin' on top
Of every fat cat who walks through my door

I'm a space cowboy
Bet you weren't ready for that
I'm a space cowboy
I'm sure you know where it's at
Yeah yeah yeah yeah

I was born on this rock
And I've been travelin' through space
Since the moment I first realized
What all you fast talkin' cats would do if you could
You know, I'm ready for the final surprise
There ain't no way around it
Ain't nothing to say
That's gonna satisfy my soul deep inside
All the prayers and surveyors
Keep the whole place uptight
While it keeps on gettin' darker outside

I'm a space cowboy
Bet you weren't ready for that
I'm a space cowboy
I'm sure you know where it's at
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Steyn is so good at attacking the media, I almost forgot we were talking about legal immigration.

Does anyone really give a rats ass what this fairy Acosta does or say or anything? I sure as shit don't and 98% of the population doesn't even know who he is. The fact that this is being posted tells me that there is nothing meaningful left to discuss on the political front.

So be it.

The Statue of Liberty says, ‘Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses,'" Acosta said
...and The Statue of Liberty is where we look for federal immigration policy?  That's news.  Guess that's why the shill Acosta went into that line of alleged work.

People like Acosta were never taught how to behave in public.  Miller should have shut him down after the followup "question."  Never get into a debate with some airhead from CNN.

With regards to your first point, it is already the law (see the 1996 Welfare Reform Law here)

It apparently has NOT been enforced, since immigrants participate in public assistance at greater rates, than native borns.

According to Harvard, just earlier this year.

Seems like Trump needs to enforce the welfare law to it's fullest extent, and can bypass Congress to do it.

Maybe Acosta would be happier if we reopened Ellis Island?

@Cyber Liberty

I watched that exchange, and Acosta's point was there would be a new regulation that the legal immigrant would have to know English already or they couldn't get in.  Then, this Miller guy went off and he was disgusting, talking loud, wouldn't let Acosta speak to the problem, and he tried to humiliate Acosta and Acosta stayed calm.

Miller/Trump want a point system, the more points you get the closer you are to getting in.  Anyone over the age of 50 gets NO points.  Trump wants only younger people - that is likely because they are prettier than someone over 50 and would look better walking on Trump's streets.
