ICE to deport Prince William pastor after 15 years in USA

Juan Gutierrez-Palomino, his wife Aurelia and daughter Jade. Submitted

Aurelia Sicha had no idea that her husband was soon bound for a Central Virginia detention center when the couple drove to meet with immigration officers on June 28.

Juan Gutierrez-Palomino isn’t in the country legally — like so many other immigrants, he overstayed a one-year visa after he first traveled here from Peru in 2002 — but he wasn’t hiding from Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents either.

The link doesn't work for me to read the entire story, but if he overstayed his visa, he should be deported.  Everyone not here legally needs to go home.  And we need to stop this anchor baby nonsense.

He overstayed a 1 year visa by 15 years. And he claims to be a pastor. Justifying criminal behavior is not a fruit of the Spirit.

Sicha says her husband was arrested on trespassing charges in 2011, and while those were ultimately dismissed, the trip to the county jail alerted immigration agents to his undocumented status. Since 2012, he had traveled to an ICE office in Fairfax once a year for a quick check-in.

My only question is why did it take so long.  His visa expired in 2003 and he was arrested on a different charge in 2011, but not deported until 2017?  That's ridiculous.

Stupid reporters. If you over stay your visa you are in the country illegally.

The reporter acknowledges that he was illegal.

The way this article is presented I guess I'm supposed to feel sympathy for Mr Guitierrez-Palimino.

It ain't working.

Ooops my bad, I take back that "stupid reporter" thing. Thanks for the correction.

No worries, @jpsb -- it irritates me, too, when they don't acknowledge that being here illegally IS a crime, which happens all too often.
