OMG! Eric Cantor Admits GOP Promise To Repeal Obamacare Was ALL A LIE

Joshua Caplan Jul 26th, 2017 4:54 pm

Before he was defeated by unknown economist Dave Brat, then Minority Whip Eric Cantor led the charge to repeal Obamacare. Day in and day out, the GOP Rep. railed against the disastrous healthcare plan, using the hot button issue as ammo to drum up political support and boost fundraising efforts.

In a stunning admission, Cantor now admits the GOP was never serious about repealing the healthcare bill. It was all a charade.

We knew this.

But the Party hacks and the Party faithful will continue to help their masters lie and deceive their dupes into believing they are an opposition party when they are anything but.

Stunning admission? We already have Boner and others on the record saying the same thing. People claim Donny is destroying the party when it's destruction was set in motion years ago by these creeps in the GOP leadership.

Agreed. As long as we keep electing faux conservatives in Republican garb (ahem, Sen. Capito, I'm looking at you), this is what we'll get. They didn't even try to stand up to Obama. They're not going to do anything now.

Cantor comes clean, admits he didn’t believe his own ACA rhetoric
MSNBC, Jul 27, 2017

<snip>

The former GOP leader in the House talked to the Washingtonian’s Elaina Plott and conceded that his Republican Party is in a tough spot – parts of the conservative base expect the party to repeal the ACA, because that’s what they were promised – in part because of promises he and his colleagues made that they never intended to keep.

Asked if he feels partly responsible for their current predicament, Cantor is unequivocal. “Oh,” he says, “100 percent.”

He goes further: “To give the impression that if Republicans were in control of the House and Senate, that we could do that when Obama was still in office….” His voice trails off and he shakes his head. “I never believed it.”

He says he wasn’t the only one aware of the charade: “We sort of all got what was going on, that there was this disconnect in terms of communication, because no one wanted to take the time out in the general public to even think about ‘Wait a minute – that can’t happen.’ ” But, he adds, “if you’ve got that anger working for you, you’re gonna let it be.”

In context, when Cantor says he and his party felt the need to “let it be,” he means that Republicans fed a bunch of nonsense to their own voters, then exploited their anger for electoral gain with no intention of following through.

Cantor and his colleagues, in other words, played their base for fools – because they thought it’d help them win some elections, which it did.

I didn’t really expect the former House Majority Leader to admit that he helped oversee a cynical multi-year charade, but it’s good to see Cantor coming clean now.

The majority (sans Conservatives) must be royally pissed that President Trump is serious about this.  The House is facing reelection in 1 1/2 years .... I hope the primary machine is warming up!  Let's replace this crew before we find out what else they've been boldly lying about.

They never had a replacement plan as they all believed Hillary would win and they didn't need one...

That is lie number two. Not only did they never have any real intention to repeal anything Obama did, but they told us adamantly that they would have a 'Republican Plan' ready to go on the day after inauguration.

While the primaries were ramping up, nobody had any idea if Trump would actually run and certainly nobody ever thought Trump would become President. So, it wasn't about Trump. It could have been Bush, or Rubio, or Kasich, nobody knew. But Congress was putting out this lie that whomever wins, they will be ready with a replacement bill for Obamacare because Obamacare was so thoroughly unpopular.

But yes, I guess they all assumed at the time that it would be another Bush/Clinton election. Of course, Bush would lose (or he would be drafted as Hillary's VP) and the 'Republican Plan' would never be needed.

It has all been exposed as a lie. The Republicans never had any 'real' intention of doing anything that would disrupt the status quo, and it goes well beyond just Obamacare. During Obama's eight year term, virtually everything he wanted to pass, did indeed pass, with some token faux opposition from the Republicans. If something Obama wanted did not pass, which was rare, Obama would simply do his 'supreme leader' shtick, and just make it "law" with his phone and his pen.

Obama did so many things which were completely utterly blatantly illegal, from Guantanamo, to transfers of billions of dollars to Iran, to initiating coups of foreign governments, to initiating an illegal war with Libya, and the Republicans did their "harumph harumph" little thing, but never did anything to actually challenge him.

Commentators throw around the term 'kabuki theater' when referring to Congress. This is a term meant to demean Congress as being a 'not serious' organization. They make speeches, they have committee after committee after committee, but nothing ever gets done. And nothing ever, ever, changes. No matter how many speeches they make. No matter how many committees and faux resolutions and fake 'votes' they have, nothing ever really changes. It is all just a show to appease the unwashed masses. Republicans never had any intention to do anything, ever. And now we know.

It really was all just dogs and ponies, and smoke and mirrors, and real kabuki theater. The Republican leadership are in fact duplicitous liars. Their allegiance by what they do, is not to the American people, it is to maintain the status quo at any cost, regardless of all their bluster and flowery speeches. The GOPe is full of shit, and they are treating the American people like we are children or fools as if we can't tell the difference.

Exactly.  They funded his entire agenda, including ObamaCare.  If they were serious about stopping it, they had every chance to defund it and chose instead to fully fund it - out of the kabuki theater of fear that they cannot risk shutting the government down or they will get creamed at election time.

And they count on their base to have willfully short and forgiving memories and expect their Party apparatchiks to shame the reluctant back onto the plantation or accuse them of being traitors or supporters of the very party and agenda the Republicans funded and passed.
