Report: McConnell to Set Obamacare Repeal Vote for Tuesday
« on: July 23, 2017, 03:37:39 pm »
By Todd Beamon   |   Saturday, 22 Jul 2017 06:40 PM

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is expected to schedule a vote Tuesday to bring legislation to repeal Obamacare outright to the floor for debate in hopes of forcing Republicans to own their positions.

"Everybody has to be held personally accountable," Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn of Texas told Politico. "Everybody is a good enough politician that if they've got a reason to justify their vote, they'll be able to sell that."

With the move, McConnell, the six-term Kentucky senator, is hoping that any strong public backlash from the procedural vote's failure will force his conference back to the table, Politico reports.

Even though it's going to fail, I'll give McConnell props for doing this even if the motive of transparency isn't what is claimed. I think each and every official needs to be on record and have to explain why to their constituents.

In the wake of the vote, conservatives need to change tack and go with replace to repeal instead of repeal and replace. Just rewrite new legislation that completely strikes the old one and starts from scratch. The liberals screech that we need a plan to fix their failed one, let's give them a nice free market based one they're sure to hate.

If I'm not mistaken Paul and Murkowski are going to vote no and without McCain's vote, the repeal is going to fail.    ****slapping

What they should have done in the very first place was to vote on absolute repeal.  The fallout would have been know by now...then they could have tried for repeal and replace with the 2015 bill that passed both houses.

Yes.  This is what people wanted.  This is what was promised.  Much as I despise McConnell and distrust his motives, this vote needs to happen.

Totally agree. We've wasted 6 months dinking around the bush and frittering political capital.

Paul?  Why would he vote no?  Interesting.

A few will vote no.  Then all the others can maintain the charade by voting yes, and the purists will be outmaneuvered again.

absolutely.  The votes to repeal when Obama was in office was political cover for someone like Murkowski to extract more monies from conservatives and get re-elected in 2016 to make the claim she was 'standing up for conservatives'.

Now that these RINOs are in power, there is no cover.  The GOP alone controls the vote and those who vote against what was voted before will be exposed for the liberals they are.

This vote is needed, and it should have been done in the first place.

I think the motion to bring it to the floor will pass. The liberals will vote no on Sen Cruz's amendment and any other free market oriented amendments. The Pub establishment will figure the conservatives won't vote for the final bill, which will be obamacare with a healthy insurance company bailout, and they will not be accountable.

The Pubs have badly miscalculated. If they don't repeal obamacare, or gut it, they will see enough conservatives sit out the next couple general elections that they will lose their majorities. I'll contribute to conservatives in the primaries and if they don't win I'll stay home in the general election.

What good are they if they won't keep their promises.

He called it a pork fest so there should be something more to this bill than repeal.

That is exactly what will happen.  And unfortunately, the RINOs, along with the Democrats, are counting on it.

Of course!  Of course McConnell isn't going to submit a clean repeal!  I should have known...

I see no point in continuing to support the Pubs if this happens. If the liberals in the Pub party want to make it a minority party I can't stop them. I'm not going to forsake my core beliefs for them. It's not about compromise, conservatives have already done plenty of that, it's about fulfilling the promise that was made for 7 years and for which we gave them the  House, Senate and Presidency.
