Samsung Galaxy Settings question
« on: July 21, 2017, 09:58:54 pm »
Hey Techie guys.   The interwebs was down at the crib today.  I have never used it but my AT&T plan allows for a free Mobile Hot spot connection via their 4G network.  So I tried to connect my laptop to my phone via a wireless connection.  Both saw each other but when I went to connect... it wanted my security key?   Didn't even know my phone had one of those?   Any way I was able to connect via the "tethering it" to the usb cable....  Any Idea where to find the password to connect via a wireless connection?

Phone is an old Galaxy S III

You can find your security key in settings.  I use mine that way frequently.

Swipe down from the top and click on the settings icon (looks like a gear), go to Mobile Networks > Mobile hotspot (actually click on the word Mobile Hotspot). That will give you the settings for it and on that window should be the security key.

I have a Galaxy Alpha.  Under settings at the very top there is a button for "Tethering and wi-fi hotspot".  When I pick that button the menu says "Mobile Hotspot".  Click on that there is an Off/On slider button at the top right.  When you slide that to On it does the "verifying" thing and then a screen shows up that has a short list of instructions on hot to connect from other devices.  Number 3 has the password in it.

So it's YOU I keep seeing in my network list.  And I was trying to figure out which of my neighbors were of interest to the FBI.

Back when my router was Wireless-G, I had it named

"The Wireless-G Spot"

Never had any trouble finding it.
