Despite warnings, kids are still dying in hot cars

(HealthDay)—On July 2, a 7-week-old baby boy died after being left in his grandmother's van for almost eight hours on a hot summer day in Mary Esther, Fla.

The boy's mother placed the infant in a rear-facing car seat in the van after church. But the grandmother wasn't told the baby was in the vehicle, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's office.

By the time the grandmother realized the baby was in the van, he had already died from the heat.

One of the engineers at work added a solar powered thermostatically controlled circuit  to exhaust the hot air out of the cab of his truck during the heat of the day.  Why can't the car makers supply that on their vehicles?

They will.  When the nanny State passes a law to make it mandatory safety equipment on all new cars and trucks..

And another $1000 will be added to the cost of a car.

Texas heat will kill you.  One time I picked up my five lb. Yorkie from the groomer and needed to stop at Walgreens to pick up meds.  I had no choice - had to carry her in there with me, not going to leave her in a car in Texas heat.  I apologized to pharmacist for having to bring her in, and he said no problem and petted  Prissy.

I've been in similar situations.  I leave the car running and lock it with my spare set of keys.  And, hurry.

Here in MI I don't leave mine in the car if I'm going to be gone more than 2 or 3 minutes paying for gas or whatever.

Incidents like this are common where I live, and we only occasionally hit 90 degrees.  Doesn't really have to be all that hot. Just leave the car out in the sun with the windows closed, and before long, your child or pet perishes.

Not long after the casino opened in Pittsburgh, there was a case of a guy leaving his kids in the car while he went inside to gamble.  Luckily, someone spotted the kids, got casino security to break them out, then the police were called and the idiot father was arrested.   Of course, the anti-gaming crowd pointed to the incident as another reason not to have casinos.  Sorry, but casinos don't make people stupid parents. They would be stupid even without a casino.
