Trump administration mulls expanding powers to expedite deportation of illegal immigrants within 90 days of their entering US
The Trump administration is considering a significant expansion of powers to deport undocumented migrants
The Department of Homeland Security proposal would allow agents to expel migrants within a shorter time frame of their crossing into the United States
Since 2004, DHS could expedite the removal of migrants if they were in the country for less than two weeks and apprehended within 100 miles of the border
The new measure would allow the government to swiftly deport migrants caught anywhere in the US and if they did not live in the country for more than 90 days
