Why are most of the Republicans in Congress so spineless?
By Patricia McCarthy

Why indeed?  Obamacare was passed in 2009 without a single Republican vote.  Everyone who paid attention to its details knew it was designed to fail, miserably.  Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber bragged about how getting it passed depended on the stupidity of the American people.  But people would not be able to keep their own doctors as promised.   No one's premiums went down by $2,500. They all went up and up  and up.  Those who are paying for it cannot afford to use it because the deductibles are too high.  It is a monstrosity of catastrophic proportions.  The insurance companies were on board; they knew they would reap billions of taxpayer dollars and they have. They have been subsidized with billions in government largesse and still have jacked up the cost of premiums each year.  The insurance companies loved the plan despite the fact that  it was built as well to be fraud-friendly, like Medicaid and Medicare.  It was and remains a giant boondoggle.  For eight years, Republicans have campaigned for office in order to repeal  it.  The House voted repeatedly to repeal it.

They are not as 'spineless' as they are 'conniving'. And they are born to 'lose', not to lead.

Many Republican politicians recoil from any kind of decision or responsibility the same way a Holloywood vampire reacts to a cross. They hate responsibility. They run from responsibility. That is why they love to lose. Let the Democrats rule, and they will just follow. That is exactly where they are the most comfortable. That is what they are used to. That is what they want.

In jail, there is a term called a 'crash test dummy'. This is a person who is built up and egged on by people smarter than him to take charge. The way it works is everyone around him continuously complains about somebody, a guard of another inmate. You keep asking him, What are you going to do about this!? Eventually, the pigeon will get the idea that he has an obligation to act. And when he does, he takes the fall, punishment and more time, and all the rest of guys who made it happen get nothing, but they achieve their goal.

That is the way Republicans use the Democrats. They want the Democrats to be in the leadership positions. Then the Republicans can encourage and approve everything they do, while denying any involvement in it.

This gets turned upside down when Republicans are put in charge. All of their instincts are telling them to duck and run for cover, but now they can't, and therefore they don't know what to do. So, they choose to do nothing until they can restore the natural order of Congress and the Democrats regain control.

Every time the Democrats are running things, everything the Democrats want always gets approved. Every time the Republicans are in control, the government grinds to a halt. And that is exactly what we have seen for the last six months.

Its pretty easy to understand, though it took me years to 'get it'. Republicans and democrats are fundamentally the same type of people; namely self interested.

The differences manifest when the candidate decides how to get to that coveted place where they can write their own ticket. Where is there an available seat and how do the people in that district vote? Then like a Stone Flounder the candidate adapts to those surroundings and becomes the candidate of the local yokels' dreams.

Once in they revert to being the same greed bag consumed by his/her own self interests. The liberals always benefit where conservatives suffer because the stock & trade of the politician, state coercion, can easily be adapted to correspond to progressive goals.

In my opinion, the Republicans would approve every single bill that Trump wants to get done, if the bill was written by a Democrat. It is not the bill itself that they are against. What they are against is having to take responsibility for something.

If Obama wanted to build a wall, every single Republican would vote for it.
If Obama wanted to repeal Obamacare, every single Republican would for it.
If Obama wanted to issue a travel ban, every Republican would vote for it.

Republicans are spineless. They don't care about the bill, or what is in the bill, they only care that it was written by a Republican. Republicans will vote for anything, they don't care what it is, as long as they are able to deny responsibility for it. That is their primary concern.

Republicans would vote for changing the name 'America' to 'Obamaland'. They would vote for implementing Sharia Law in all 50 States. As long as they can escape responsibility and pin it on the Democrats somehow, Republicans will vote for anything at all. They simply don't care.

Until the Democrats regain control of the House and the Senate, I don't expect to see any meaningful legislation passed.

Perfectly stated and makes the case of the absolute need and necessity for a third party, if there is any chance to arrest the consequences via civil means - which I have serious doubts we can do at this point.

I think we are too far gone, and with the factual statement regarding the Republicans stated in your rant - I continue to marvel at the absolute recalcitrance of a people who realize this is all a shell game, but refuse stop playing it.

Why are most of the Republicans in Congress so spineless?

They reflect the wishes of their constituents. Otherwise, they'd not have been elected.

If you'll allow me to refine your comment: they reflect the wishes of their constituents - at election time.

The rest of the time they reflect the wishes of their largest donors.

This.

They have a spine for that which *THEIR* constituents want.  (and a spine for those with the moola that helps them win elections)

Not for what anyone else wants.

And certainly not for what a political commentator wants, or what the far right wants.  The far right is a locked in vote, for who else are you going to vote for?  In essence, you're just as much on the plantation as the black vote.

Pretty much.  Until people vote, not by party, but by the platform and actions of the candidate themselves... then politicians can (and *WILL*) ignore those voters.
