Carl Reiner: Justice Kennedy, Don’t Retire

By CARL REINERJULY 7, 2017

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Dear Justice Anthony Kennedy,

I would like to start with congratulatory wishes on your forthcoming 81st birthday.

As someone who has almost a decade and a half on you, I can tell you this: It may well be that the best part of your career has just begun. As a nonagenarian who has just completed the most prolific, productive five years of my life, I feel it incumbent upon me to urge a hearty octogenarian such as yourself not to put your feet up on the ottoman just yet. You have important and fulfilling work ahead of you.

Dear J. Kennedy: please retire now, while Trump's choices for your replacement can still be constrained by a GOP-controlled Senate.

I find it interesting that Justice Kennedy -- who was presumed to be ready to retire at the end of the Court term -- has not yet made any announcement as such.

I sense that he was "of the mind" to do so -- UNTIL Neil Gorsuch took his seat and started making waves, and driving the Court rightward even though his tenure is yet a short one.

Perhaps Mr. Kennedy realizes that once he vacates the seat, there's little likelihood of it being replaced by another wishy-washy swing vote as himself. Instead, there's a good chance that the next justice to fill his place will be a rip-roarin' conservative.

And that scares him.

Perhaps Mr. Kennedy has reconsidered for just this reason.
I hope to be proven wrong in the next couple of months.
But that's my take on things.

I can't believe Carl is still alive. His last solid gig was during the Kennedy administration with the Dick Van Dyke Show.

Still a Meathead.
I think you are thinking of his son Rob 'Meathead' Reiner who along with his holloyweird socialistas conned Californians into passing punitive taxes on smokers 'for the children", it appears the socialist fruit doesn't fall far from the tree.

I was. I had no idea the old man was still alive.  Just figured with the Meatheads politics being slightly left of Barbara Mikulski, Kirsten Gillibrand, Al Franken, Maria Cantwell, Richard Blumenthal, Tammy Baldwin...it was him
