Trump: 'Fake News will be forced to discuss' White House accomplishments

By Louis Nelson

07/03/2017 09:08 AM EDT

The media that President Donald Trump has so often derided for what he perceives as its unfair coverage of his administration will soon have no choice but to report on the White House’s preferred issues, the president wrote online Monday morning.

“At some point the Fake News will be forced to discuss our great jobs numbers, strong economy, success with ISIS, the border & so much else!” Trump wrote on Twitter, listing issues on which he has claimed success since taking office.

The president, along with other members of his administration, has complained loudly that the media has dedicated too much time covering the ongoing investigations into Russian interference in last year’s presidential election, as well as other scandals and controversies, at the expense of news that might portray Trump in a more positive light. Often, coverage that the White House has complained about has been spurred by Trump’s own Twitter account, where he regularly posts incendiary comments.

It seems more like he is doing nothing but distracting from accomplishments and forcing them to talk about his childish tweets.

I'm curious how this Dear Leader intends to force 'fake news' to report what and how he demands they report his 'accomplishments'.

Is he an idiot to think that somehow the Leftist Media is suddenly going to wake up and realize their shrinking market share and finally report the actual news without the narrative push?

If he does, he truly will have illustrated himself a moron without any understanding of those opposed to him.

If not, and if he does understand those opposed to him - we have the open rantings of a wannabe despot who has no regard for the First Amendment at all.

Then again, both parties in Congress were happy about the prospect of 'licensing' Journalists and deciding only THOSE they choose are offered First Amendment Protection.  Maybe this is what Trump knows is in the works???

Not good any way you look at it.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

I haven't heard a word about that.  Do you have a source?

I believe in First Amendment protection but it's not a license to lie.  I think there should be more protection for people who are lied about in the media.

Right now, it's almost impossible to win a lawsuit because you have to prove 'intent to harm.'  I think intent to harm is inherent in a lie if it is a negative lie.

The latter has been cited as a necessary first step towards licensing journalists.

I believe in First Amendment protection but it's not a license to lie.

The Left insists anything posted by a Conservative is a lie.  The Republican/Conservatives state that anything posted by the Left is a lie.

So who is going to determine what is and is not a "lie" in a prosecutorial political sense?  If you thought civility was bad now - if something like having the government determine what is truth and what is a lie in this age of deceit - you are asking for horrors beyond your scope of comprehension, because the "truth" is what is despised by most.

I think there should be more protection for people who are lied about in the media.

Defamation suits exist for that reason.  No need to create more "laws" that will simply be abused in favor of the state.

Right now, it's almost impossible to win a lawsuit because you have to prove 'intent to harm.'  I think intent to harm is inherent in a lie if it is a negative lie.

So who determines that?  Leftist judges?  You really want to go there?  You are begging for a tyranny more heinous that where we are currently going.

They laughed it off as just a joke when Trump pushed the idea of punishing media he deemed false. They laughed it off as never trump paranoia yet here they are pushing it for themselves.

To think that it's Trump and his supporters pushing for a Ministry of Truth (Minitrue).

I guess we ought to consider his tweets to be newspeak, too.

That's looking like someone who's demanding that those not like him... 'better learn their place', or else.

Which is a fundamentally unAmerican ideal.

But it's an idea that's been rife throughout European history.

Too many don't understand that the European right are fundamentally alien from the right of the anglosphere and want to emulate them. The fact is that the euro right are ethnocentric socialists who want top down control of all things (fascists)

I don't like the media either, but this continued temper tantrum is getting ridiculous.  Perhaps the media should just ignore his outbursts, or maybe not show up for his briefings and news conferences.  Stop giving him attention and maybe this little boy in the White House will knock it off.  His actions won't get him the attention he craves.
