It must be your area. I visited a Chiropractor that was on the Sports Medicine Team, for a community college.

He helped me greatly,  with injuries related to long distance running. He assured me that he knew the limits of his treatment, and would refer me to a physician if indicated.

Later, another member of his group, did refer me to an MD when he determined I needed such treatment.

Of about 4 Chiropractors I saw none ever mentioned pills, potions, etc.

You can find quacks in any area of medicine.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.

At least my Chiropractor didn't tell me "It's all in your head". That is the refuge of bad doctors who can't just say "I don't know."

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

No argument here. I go to Chiropractor. If he mentioned magnets, crystals and/or any number of other things down that road I would find someone else. But he doesn't and will suggest a physician for problems beyond his expertise.

New Chiropractor spiel (Normally bent up so bad I am looking at his shoes):

LOOK, I know what's wrong. It's always been wrong. I lift heavy crap and my back goes out. I don;t need no xrays, I don't need a plan. I don't need you to ping em back in one at a time for weeks. Here's fifty bucks cash. Just rip my ass, have your secretary delete the appointment, and I'll be on my way.

Chiropractor: *shrugs* OK. :)

There's good and there's dodgy buggers - same as any profession.

One of the things I do like about a good chiropractor is they look at the whole picture, not just "Leg hurts, must be leg. Have a pain pill." Everything is connected.

Couple years back I went to see my osteopath to get myself sorted out after a moderately serious hard landing. Happened to mention I was having some trouble peeing and she poked around my back for a bit and then gave me some exercises for my shoulders. Did you know a misaligned tendon in your shoulder can affect your bladder? I didn't. Neither did my GP.

Mine is the same. He's a Christian and Conservative, and not into the New Age stuff.
