My brother the Marine told me that at boot camp at Pendleton he had to dig a hole so deep. When he was through, they told him to fill it back up and dig another one where the pile was.
Seemed useless at the time, but it sure broke him of any dream he might have had of being his own man. He then followed orders.
Our football coach got me out of a mighty, mighty jam. He'd been trying to get me on the team for two years, and this was his chance. Charges dropped, expulsion threats allayed, and I finally, reluctantly showed up for football practice.
The first thing he made us do was to fall down face fwd, with arms stretched out sideways... get up, stand where our face just was, and do it again... all the way down the field...
Nope.
I guess some of us only follow orders that are valid and sane.
