All Music Is Welcome

http://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays.php   http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/born_today

Low-key day it appears, however,  some recognizable birthdays, nonetheless.

Jay Uzzel of the Corsairs:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TAjoICQTZw

Roger McGuinn:
http://borntolisten.com/2017/07/13/july-13-happy-75th-birthday-roger-mcguinn/

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rC6uZy7Vs2Q
So, I gather, he was a full member of the Byrds.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvBKeB44Qkw

Louise Mandrell of the Mandrell Sisters:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCvQaeqT9UM

Sidenote on this, Charlie Pride is still singing and according to a news report last night, does 40 live performances a year still at 79 years old (I think the news story actually had him a little older). Some of those are probably in Branson. Though, one might not know it, he is a big seller of records, more in his heyday.
http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/country-music-legend-charley-pride-regrets-decades-long/story?id=48573661
So, apparently, Charlie Pride is celebrating 50 years in the industry.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yI50qqyXH5Y

Sidenote, Hoyt Axton per the above clip with the Mandrell Sisters, quite a songwriter:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bnkmg2PLyY4

Rhonda Vincent; know the name, not so much the songs. She does have some patriotic songs in her repertoire as well.  She seems accomplished and plays bluegrass too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bDHFmxN97c

A splash of country today.

. . . jazz avant garde saxophonist Albert Ayler . . .

All Music Is Welcomed!

Post whatever Music You Want, THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND.

Quote

Woodrow Wilson “Woody” Guthrie (July 14, 1912 – October 3, 1967) was an American singer-songwriter and folk musician whose musical legacy includes hundreds of political, traditional and children’s songs, ballads and improvised works. He frequently performed with the slogan This Machine Kills Fascists displayed on his guitar. His best-known song is “This Land Is Your Land.” Many of his recorded songs are archived in the Library of Congress. Such songwriters as Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, Pete Seeger, Joe Strummer, Billy Bragg, Jeff Tweedy and Tom Paxton have acknowledged Guthrie as a major influence.

They taught us "This Land Is Your Land" in Parochial school. I think Dylan has at least one song referencing Woody in the title.

It was on Dylan's first album, a song he wrote called "Song for Woody." (Dylan and Guthrie actually struck up a friendship
when Dylan first hit New York and sought Guthrie out, meeting Guthrie in hospital.)

Meanwhile, today's music birthdays include . . .

Bob Scholl, one of the Mello Kings . . .

. . . Bob Casale (aka Bob 2), Devo . . .

1973, A drunk driver killed Clarence White of The Byrds while he was loading equipment after a gig in Palmdale, California. White joined The Byrds in 1968, after the group had recorded 'Mr. Tambourine Man,' 'Turn! Turn! Turn!' and 'Eight Miles High'.

White died on July 14, 1973 after being struck by a drunk driver. The accident occurred shortly after 2 a.m., while he and his brother Roland were loading equipment into their car in Palmdale, California, following a spur-of-the-moment reunion gig of the Colonels. Especially shaken by his death was Gram Parsons, who would lead a singalong of "Farther Along" at the funeral service and conceive his final song before his own death, "In My Hour of Darkness", as a partial tribute to White.
I know of that song:

Just rolling with the flow, we have some favourite artists and I see their birthdays are months off and in some cases we might have just missed them by a month.

All songs and all music is welcomed.

http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/born_today
http://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays.php

And voila, it's Linda Ronstadt's birthday,  (birthdays all below unless noted differently)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FLN4MUROXk

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stq4-99-J74

Some of these others are psychedelia,  glam, punk, progressive... we'll see.

Joe Satriani,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pewX7pgZBOk
Well known, I do not know his songs that well.

Johnny Thunders, NY Dolls and solo fame.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNt0UMLM9sI

Roky Erickson of the 13th floor elevators,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDhgRdWtrvk

Peter Lewis, Moby Grape, that band covered not long ago along with a bandmember of Yes,  the late Peter Banks, 1968-70; so early Yes.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOWzIFg6jyE

Drummer of Artimus Pyle of Lynyrd Skynyrd:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zUGd-VC3wk

It has to be said, it looks like things aren't all rosy between Lynyrd Skynrd and Artimus, looks like they are embroiled in litigation: http://www.newser.com/story/245600/lynyrd-skynyrd-at-war-over-skewed-biopic.html and other articles.

Born today, Jason Bonham, a member of 38 Special,  Jeff Carlisi and yet, others too.

Alicia Bridges,  so even some disco:

One can't argue with that. She also did this one.

Written by Teddy Randazzo, Bobby Weinstein, and Bobby Hart.

And of course, this one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uB_2yjIkdk8

Always, a nice album cover per my view:

I saw one review of this and it said her rendition of this was fairly bland.  It's okay.

And she came out with some music in Spanish.

For those who didn't know, Peter Lewis of Moby Grape is the son of film and television
legend Loretta Young.

Meanwhile, happy birthday Johnny Thunders (lead guitarist, the New York Dolls and the Heartbreakers---not
to be confused with Tom Petty's), who also made one excellent solo album . . .

Just my opinion, I really enjoy their version more than others.  So, I don't want to diss Linda any, it's good she gave some of these songs a new life or something like that, if I should overstate it.

I liked his Shanty Town song but now upon listening to it, it sounds a bit like Bristol Hop but so much of music takes from others and I could be wrong.

John Chilton of Feetwarmers fame, not of the Boxtops, that was Alex.

You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.
Rational fear and anger at vicious murderous Islamic terrorists is the same as irrational antisemitism, according to the Leftists.
