In another similar story recently, a man was arrested for having a sock full of 'meth' in his car. The sock was actually full of crystal kitty litter as a recommendation from 'hack' websites to keep your window from fogging up. It took him almost a year and thousands of dollars to clear his name.

Quote
A Florida man spent 90 days in jail after police officers who stopped him for driving without headlights said white powder found in his car was cocaine.

But Karlos Cashe walked out of jail last week after lab results determined the powder in the handyman's car was actually drywall.....

The bad part is the field test came back with a positive hit. Those are notoriously unreliable.

Well that would suck.   I bet he has lawyers lining up to sue the city and the drug test kit manufacturer.

Given Florida Man's past behavior its probably best to err on the side of caution.

He had a bust for a joint, but I'm not sure how carrying drywall can be any more cautious.

I wonder if anyone has ever been arrested for possession of marijuana .... when it was actually catnip....?   Had some friends get into my cat's sock full of nip once while I was on an errand.   They thought it was a stash of pot, smoked it, claimed it was the best high they'd had....lol.

Yep. He's lucky overall. He'll be able to open his own company, or even to not work at all. He's going to be a very rich man. I only wish it was me they arrested. 90 days for a couple of mil. Not a bad deal at all.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

I haven't confirmed if it is true, but on some of the comments on articles about this, people were saying that Florida has a maximum liability of $250K for false arrests, and that maximum is in the most extreme circumstances. He may be lucky to get a fraction of that. The laws protect the government, not the citizens.

False arrest is one thing. False imprisonment is another. He did 90 days.
