President Donald Trump frequently comes under criticism for tweeting, even from his own advisers. But tweeting is probably the smartest thing he has done as president. He is able to speak directly to the American people without going through the biased mainstream media filter. The media doesn’t get to ask him slanted questions or pick and choose parts of his press releases to publish. Instead, Trump gets immense control over every single sentence he issues, which are then read by millions of Americans.

With almost everyone online these days, it is easy for the average American to follow Trump’s tweets on Twitter. Twitter is free, unlike some mainstream media sites. ....

I think she is generally correct.

Trump is the perfect president for these social media driven times. He's mastered the art of putting a message into 140 characters or less.

FDR had his "fireside chats"...fast forward 80 years, and Trump has his "Twitter wars". Splendid... :3:

Afraid so.  Twitter is the currency of our times.

Afraid so.  Twitter is the currency of our times.

That "currency" has devalued discourse as assuredly as the inflation in the Weimar Republic devalued the German Mark.

If this is "genius", then Rachel Alexander is a bit player in the 2017 version of "Idiocracy".

Trump is bypassing the media and showing their irrelevancy.  That's good, in my book.

I'm not on twitter. As such, I don't get ANYbody's tweets.
But I think Mr. Trump should keep right on tweetin'.

Consider:
Back in the days of, say, Richard Nixon, how did the ordinary American -- YOU -- find out "what he said"?

You turned on the news or read it in the papers. That was how a president "communicated" to "the people" -- through the filter of the media.

And by editing or omission, the media could shape, and thus control the message.

But not any more.
When Mr. Trump sends out a tweet, it can be picked up by anyone, getting the message straight from the horse's mouth. (heh).
No media to intervene.
No press secretary.
Just Trump... to you.

Maybe it's only 140 characters.
It's not a fireside chat.
One can't say a lot.
But one can "get the message across".

I like the idea.

Maybe he ain't eloquent; I'm not either.
But I don't care.
Trump can let us know what's on his mind.

WITHOUT the media having ANY control.
And that's fine with me.

I absolutely agree!
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

And FDR has Fala with him during those fireside chats. Cute doggie! I wish Trump had a first puppy
