Report: Only 1 out of 7 Iranian missiles reached its target

Only one out of the seven missiles which Iran fired at ISIS targets in Syria yesterday reached its target, Channel 2 reported.

“Iran trying to play at being a great power,” explained Channel 2 Middle East analyst Ehud Ya’ari. “There was no operational need” to attack ISIS from within Iranian territory."

The Iranian military launched a barrage of medium-range missiles on ISIS strongholds across eastern Syria Sunday night, in response to a double terror attack in Tehran earlier this month which left 17 dead and dozens more wounded.

According to a website of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, the surface-to-surface missiles hit ISIS targets in the Deir Ez-Zour district in northeastern Syria, a rare direct intervention by forces in Iran in the Syrian civil war.

According to Ya'ari, three of the seven missiles did not even reach Syrian territory, and instead landed in neighboring Iraq. One missile managed to strike within a few hundred meters of its target, but still missed. A fifth missile landed in the Deir Ezzor region, which was far from the ISIS position it had been intended for.

The location where the sixth missile struck is unknown.

I don't think we know for sure they were medium-range missiles.  Iran claims they were short-ranged Zulfiqars, and they released video that was supposedly of the launch, showing Zulfiqars.  But Israeli sources say they were Shahab-3 missiles.  It would be interesting to hear what they actually were, with such inaccuracy.  The former is based on Chinese design, the latter on North Korean design (and might be actual DPRK tooling).

It appears if Iran is shooting at you the safest place to be is at the target site.  Nearby neighbors are out of luck!  :tongue2:
