Usually you'd put odd topics in General Chat. It is fine here though.

It's a misdemeanor, which probably means he will get what amounts to a slap on the wrist.

What he should get is to be locked in a parked car on a hot day with the windows closed.  Let him experience the horrible suffering this poor pup experienced .

Judging from the title, I can't read this.

I can't ping it, can I? Not about a dead dog.

Too upsetting. Sorry.

I'm not. I just hope you all support me on my decision not to ping this. I'm not a snowflake, I just can't in good conscious do it.

@EC and everyone, here's a picture of a puppy to cheer you instead of a puppy. Ping.

I understand.  This is actually a common occurrence, and it's very upsetting.  People are stupid, careless or maybe they just don't care.  Perhaps a stronger punishment might wise them up and make them care.

And it's not just animals.  Where I live, there is at least one story every summer about some idiot parent leaving the kid or kids in a hot car.  Heck, lately, there have been stories of parents overdosing with the little ones in the back seat.   What's wrong with these people?

@Freya, it's not about a dead dog. If it were, I'd still be in a blubbering heap on the floor. Because people got involved, the puppy is rescued and is taken out of the home of this stupid loser. It's his lackadaisical excuse that floored me.

In additional to the possible year of imprisonment, he should also never ever be able to own a pet again -- ever.

P.S. My Pinterest account has 2 boards dedicated to dogs -- one to my favorite breed (poodles) and the other to dogs in general because dogs are God's most wonderful critters in my estimation. I have 200 - 300 pins, and this is where I go to find peace and contentment when I'm in a funk. Works better than any pill ever invented.

I need to get a Pinterest account. A friend here sends me kitty photos from there. Cheers me up and makes me happy.

@AllThatJazzZ you will be pinged on the next puppy story.

I didn't see anything about the puppy going back to that rat owner.  I wonder if she'll be given another home.

Why bother having animals if you don't care about their welfare?  I've never understood that.

The owner did a stupid thing.  I don't know that he doesn't care about the dog as the cop said the dog was infested with flea bites.  The vet said there were no fleas on him.  That tells me that the owner at least cared enough to purchase flea meds to get the fleas off the pup.  I suspect the "I didn't want to waste the gas" was a flippant remark as the owner probably resented them butting into his business not realizing what could have happened to the pup left in a hot car, even with a cracked sunroof to allow air, for too long.

The older I've grown, the more obvious it's become that there are an awful lot of stupid people out there.

(and of course, the gnawin' realization that I could be one of them!)

A. It's a bad idea to be flippant with a police officer.
B. Being flippant after your dog nearly had heat stroke due to your actions is very unwise.
C. Would you be willing to return the care of this dog to the individual who didn't have the sense to understand the consequences of his actions?

As a dog owner, he's a loser. If the dog is returned to him, there will be an uproar.
